The riff played at about 2:00 is actually a bass line. That's cliff burton distorting the bass in the intro
@corbenmatthews98905 жыл бұрын
Yep. He also uses a wah pedal
@drink_your_tapwater5 жыл бұрын
Panzerknacker43 yeah he said that, but there is also a layered guitar harmonising with the bass
@kkadnar5 жыл бұрын
I'm totally unsure about that - i hear no guitar doubling it. I even found isolated tracks for everything in this song (the account holder who uploaded them has since been booted), and i feel certain it's all bass.
@Sturmpionier5 жыл бұрын
@@drink_your_tapwater It's only the bass. Look up any of the live performances. The riff itself was one of Cliff Burtons original samples before he joined Metallica and was also the very riff that made James Hetfield and Lars to seek him out. They honestly thought he was a guitarist because of the distortion and playing methods he used. The Cliff Em All video is the best example.

I'm not 100% sure but I think that line is played on bass, so often in guitar lessons they don't include it because it isn't technically a "guitar" riff (I personally like it played on guitar and totally agree with you)

3:59 I hate to be nitpicking but - are you certain that you are correctly ending that power chord run on the B power chord (on the 2nd run) rather than an A♯ (or B♭ - not sure how it's determined whether it's one or the other since they're the exact same key ¯\_(ツ)_/¯...)? Because it has always sounded like A♯ (B♭) to me as well as when I play along with the record (a pain in the ass to tune to since I always drop or raise anything and everything to E♭ with software), so I wonder if I am hearing it and playing it incorrectly or possibly - and I swear I'm not trying to be coming across as confrontational - but even the slightest possibility that _you're_ the one who has erred in this particular scenario..? I'm pretty sure it's the latter as opposed to the former since I've tried it both ways since seeing this video and it sounds wrong when I play it by your instruction here, all wobbly and dissonant.. And again, playing it with the A♯ / B♭ power chord aligns perfectly, so.. Goddam I'm sure this comes across as a nitpicking & trifling waste of time to raise issue over but I truly don't intent to be contrarian or anything but damn dude - it's making me 2nd guess my own ears now and wonder why (if I'm correct) no one else has pointed it out in the comments here =/ It's driving me batshit because I have a SERIOUS affliction of a form of OCD that keeps me stuck on something to the point of obsession until it reaches satisfactory resolution.. So, please forgive my uncertainty and help me out with this so I can get past it and move forward to the next piece of minutea I get to look forward to being subjugated with...

Probably Co'K is a similar hurdle as you noted about Orion, just so damn long! Kinda cool how you can you can draw comparisons between tunes on the trifecta albums. (e.g. Ktulu, Orion and To Live Is To Die) being dramatic instrumentals which kinda go on forever. Then you have Fight Fire w/ Fire, Battery, and Blackened, all three being rippers with instrumental moments up front, and all three precede title tracks. Collect 'em All!
