SSA took tne money from my account when my husband died. The curious part of that is...we were told when we started receiving those "benefits" that a month would be held back before we started receiving them. In other words...money paid in February would be fornthe month of January. Why then did they take back the money paid in the month he died, when that should have been for the previous month? So not only did they cheat us of the first month, but also the last month. This is money he paid in for over 50 years. Shouldn't we receive interest on this money?

Reminds me when I was let go from a company and I filed for unemployment insurance. It was denied, because there was already a claim for unemployment against my SS#. ???? How is it possible, that I was employed for over a decade. All that time, I and my employer were paying into Unemployment yet the Unemployment office had an open claim against my SS#? There needs to be a clean-up of incompetent people who are allowing this mishap to happen for decades. I'm working on a case right now where the caregiver who has access to bank account that was helping a senior who has been deceased for over a year. SS is still depositing into bank account the caregiver has been trying to stop this and tell SS the person is deceased and the deceased did not do a POA. Now the caregiver must do a PR petition with probate court to close and return monies. The state did not report the deceased to SS!

Why should SSA be paid by other agencies to share the dead people database? They can provide access to this database for other agancies with a view and download option only but cannot make changes to the database. This should only require a one time payment and limited on-going payment for maintenance which should be minimal.
