Insurance companies have liability limits strictly outlined in the policies they underwrite and only pay so much.. and If they can prove in court that J&J knew they had asbestos in the baby powder and attempted to cover it up they could fight J&J and not pay a cent forcing J&J to cover the entire cost themselves. They don't fear it because even though it may actually bring down J&J none of them will be held criminally responsible... they just get hired at another company. Its for this reason I believe corporations should not be a legal shield for the criminal behavior that some large corporations seem to engage in. If the heads of a company knowingly place an unsafe product on the shelves that kills people they should face jailtime not just fines.
