WarriorinaGarden: Please state this correctly: "I am a proud American--though I find myself living, somehow, in an alien country that has usurped the proud name of my own Republic. I say this because there is no quadrant of American life that operates from true American Principles, "self evident truths," but indeed, every quadrant if an open violation of those sacred Principles. And those who do not see this simply aren't looking. And ask yourself this: why is it that the media never mentions Iceland where the People threw out the entire government and put the big bankers in jail. Why? Well, because they know that is the only cure and don't want to give American citizens any useful ideas. JWC

I am proud that Clay and I are both from Louisiana, and we both think alike. Yes, you can take a HUMAN for temporary mental evaluation, but you can NOT legally take his tools without a warrant specifically naming them as something to be seized as EVIDENCE OF A CRIME. No crime has been committed if someone is simply involuntarily committed for a mental evaluation.

We grew up with guns, they weren't keep in a safe, they were on display in a beautiful wood and glass cabinet. The cabinet was kept locked, which meant we as kids were not allowed in. We were taken to a gun range and learned gun safety and how to shoot. When we were older and could be left alone, we were told where the key was. I never needed the key, so I never touched it. That is the level of respect parents need to stat instilling in their children again.

Sadly not everybody responsible. Parkland, Las Vegas , Miami and the list is unending. Hundreds of grave prove, humans lost their ways. Countries with reasonable gun laws hardly have to deal with mass killing. And all those countries allow citizens to own guns. But there is training, tests, definitely not automatic weapons with 50 round of bullets. But hunting rifles, as we supposedly use them for that. Damn sure not for a Walmart trip, that maybe somebody cut me off at the cash.

@@katkiskukacka9093 So what? We take away the rights of everybody else because 1% of the population is evil and the 2% that lives with them don't see it? More deaths occur from drunk driving, I don't see anyone closing down the bars, or outlawing cars. More and more people are off work and dying from obesity, I don't see anyone closing the fast food places or stopping companies from putting all the additives in our food. If an argument doesn't work for everything it's not a sound argument. Also there are no automatic weapons, they are semi auto. Do you know why no foreign army has every "boots on the ground" invaded? @@tomjohnson3610: You're talking about the IS, and have left out the OUGHT. And the problem with that is that your words might be interpreted as a kind of justification for questionable police behavior. Thus my comment. The world is not just a lump of metaphysical matter. Emerson called that other aspect of our world the "Book of Nature" which implied--as indeed the concept of "Creation" implies, that there is both light and direction as well as a command for Right Action, i.e., ethics, as constituent parts of our world, and of our own Human Nature as part of that world. Right? Indeed, that we have police at all implies that there is an OUGHT (Law) that has a claim upon us because it is from Nature and not arbitrary, and that very fact demands that we question especially those who would presume to enforce that Law at they same time that they act, behave, as if they are above the Law. And it is not that the police should be held to "a higher standard" because there is no higher standard. But clearly they should have less wiggle-room when it comes to the Law that has a claim upon all of us equally. And if they grant themselves more wiggle-room that simply indicates that they have no functional conscience and shouldn't be working within any judicial system, eh? JWC

@@tomjohnson3610: And one other thing Tom; taking an oath is a very important if not sacred thing. And one cannot get out from under it by just saying, I'm just following orders. Of course corrupt politicians often stand up before the television cameras and say, "I take responsibility for my actions," and the public accepts that as actually "taking responsibility," which is simply ridiculous. Why? Because they are the products of the factory based amerikan stool sistem. First, we have been lied to from birth, and when we add to that the fact that the Media takes advantage of that deficiency instead of correcting it and we have a pretty deadly one, two punch, eh? First the schools, and then the Media. JWC

Shit, I graduated in 2011 and we still had gun racks in pick up trucks. I remember fights breaking out on Truck Row and never, not once did any of those boys try to grab a gun. One of these participation trophy generation kids probably would’ve grabbed a gun, during or after the fight, and shot whoever embarrassed them by giving them a bloody nose. I blame the parents. Shoutout to Mr. Higgins. Literally the only respectable one left.

I was born in New Orleans and as a child through early adulthood, lived in Franklin Louisiana, Lafayette and finally Mandeville LA, before moving away. I now live in Tennessee. I had always been depressed by the state of politics in Louisiana when I was old enough to be aware, but listening to Mr Higgins is giving me new hope for Louisiana.

This is good. And if I decide I don’t want what this Higgins fella is selling, I can buy something else. You don’t stifle competition, you encourage it. Life is a struggle, a struggle to survive. Always has been. It’s the way it is.

it's definiltely unconstitutional. The right to due process is completely swept away with red flag laws. SCOTUS will strike this down once GOA or another gun org sues the federal govt.

Bravo! He's my age and I can tell you that's how it was back then. Our familys door was open all day and neighbors would just walk in without knocking to borrow a tool or just sit and chat. Or, as a kid...you'd yell into an open window to see if any kids in there wanted to join the kickball game going on. Every other house on the block probably had a gun locked up somewhere, but you didn't even think about it because there was no gun violence . It all comes down to respect, responsibility, and being a decent human.
