Did she confirm the self-identification of the purported 80% of "European-Americans", or 50+% of men that she quoted? Then how does she know whether *they* fit the category? She refused to categorize the representative, but gladly categorized all the people in her organization. Since she used the term "greater than 50%" when mentioning the percentage of men -- versus using the exact percentage, or even "greater than" a number *larger* than 50% -- we must assume that the figure is very close to 50%, which is the parity ratio. Why is this a problem? Would she have an issue if the small difference was tipped in the other direction? This garbage is rife with logical inconsistencies. It's payback, nothing more.

Religion has no box, but I am pretty sure that that HISTORICALLY Protestant Christianity has occupied a privileged place in thew power structure. Catholics of European background . who constituted 23% of the population in 1940 but furnished maybe 40% of the combat arms during WW2, were under-represented everywhere. I am pretty sure that they were underrepresented among Ivy League graduates, the major pool of recruits. for the State Department. at that time. Jews were of course even less likely to be found at State.

Here is where I also get confused: My grandparents came to this country in the early 1900s from Italy. Am I considered WHITE? My DNA shows my heritage all over Europe, especially Italy and Greece. Am I privileged? My grandparents faced a harsh reality coming to the new world. Opposition from groups like the KKK and having to take any job to make money since there were no benefits during that time. My father worked in the steel mills and other members were coal miners. Privileged: I would say NOT I am the 1st to graduate college in my family and I have 3 children all with College degrees and are currently employed. My family history is very common to millions of other AMERICANS. This is the frustration with all of this: I consider myself an AMERICAN and proud to be one.

What gets me is that on the last resume I sighed out I had to put either White or Other. Why do African American's get called that? Why not call them Black. I've known lots of people with really dark skin, and they've never been to Africa. I've never been to Sweden either. Or, why not call me Italian American, German American, Swiss American, or Irish American? They're my family too. Why Chinese, or Japanese, or Indian, or Indonesian? Why not red or yellow? If someone can call me white why can't I call them black? I have red hair on my arms. I have blue eyes. I agree 👍🏾 But what’s interesting is that people forget that the census language wasn’t created by black folks. The boxes we say we hate, weren’t created by black folks. In fact, the concept of racial hierarchy in this country wasn’t put in place by anyone of African ancestry. So what’s at play is that we black folks are trying to reconcile with the residue of what these divisions have created, so as to help ensure that America’s North Star stays pointed towards the story we tell ourselves about our merit based values.

When the Irish came to America they were considered black. When Italian came to America they were considered black. When the Middle Eastern came to America they were considered black. We didn't care about the doctor's colour, religious views or even gender (it turned out to be a male this time).
