I think there are lots of companies that share the same design, I've seen the FTX Mauler (that is sell on the UK mostly) and of course, the Rock Hammer that I own, not to mention that there are even cheaper versions of this model by WPL and even one that you can get from Walmart for 50 dlls, the Rock Runner... However, as you mention on your video I'm having a hard time trying to get some replacement parts, I have found several UK websites for the FTX Mauler but most of the spare parts and upgrade parts are out of stock. In the case of the Axles, I think that the ones from 1/10 SCX10 fits on all those models (HammerJaw, RockHammer, FTXMauler)...

Force RC has a different axles setup from the original FTX Mauler which used an HSP 1/10 scale clone of the Axial SCX10 axle plus wheel hex extenders to get the wider stance. The Force RC Hammerjaw axles are designed wider. The Mauler may get the updated axles as I think Tower Hobbies exclusive on this design seems to becoming to an end (based on the fact that I see other Ebay distributers selling them now). Both use the same locker and can be upgraded using HSP part 180009 all metal locker.
@antrc5 жыл бұрын
@@bobzilla9p0 ahhh interesting! I thought the axles looked familiar. If it would take a set of scx10 shafts id be tempted to ditch the extenders and put 1.9s on it. Help with turning radius.
@bobzilla9p05 жыл бұрын
@@antrc These are new wider axle housings. There are no "wheel extenders" so aftermarket axle shafts for SXC10s do not work. I have been toying with 2 sets of cheap Wraith CVDs and using the long sides to cut down and grind a flat tang to match the length of the stock Hammerjaw axle shafts. I haven't gotten back to that project to see how the CVD cup would fit into the Hammer jaw C-hub and knuckle. Wraith/Bomber c-hubs and knuckles might be another option. For converting to 1.9 rig you could just do like I did and source aftermarket 1.9 axles of your choice. The new Redcat Gen8 portal axle kit for $90-$100 for both front and rear is attractive, or a set of SCX10.2 all aluminum ones off Ebay for excellent turning radius.

Hey budget I ended up buying one of these after watching your video and doing some investigating I have to tell you it is the best $130 I have ever spent. I have driven mind and the stock configuration for about 5 miles now of trail riding and rock crawling and I have to say it is holding up I haven't stripped any gears but I do not abuse it either I have all metal gears on standby so when things start going South with the gears I can start replacing them. Also I figured out for the dog bones you can use the redcat gen7 dog bones they fit perfect. Like I said mine runs great I had been using yet and some trail riding with a lot of mud and also climbing rocks I have no problem in the stock configuration hopefully you are having the same luck.

You can use HSP part 180009 for an all metal locker in these axle diffs. For $130 plus about $180 in the upgrades listed below you have good start at a Bomber alternative that will have all metal axles, steel drive shafts and better shocks. I ended up buying a set of AR60 (Axial Wraith) style aluminum complete axle assemblies on Ebay made by Xtra Speed (Front #XS-AW-1XS Rear #XS-AW-1XS) This is not a budget minded option. Due to the Off Center Pumpkin/Differential you will need to flip the transmission skid plate around to the other side for drive shaft alignment. You will also need different shocks as the mounts on these axles are the industry standard narrow size. I got a set of 4 blue 90mm dual spring shocks for $24 shipped on Amazon with faux resevoirs (for looks). It also needed longer drive shafts so I ordered steel 122-151mm CVD drive shafts($23 Amazon) Again, all of this starts to add up in total price. The truck has 2.2 aluminum wheels and brass beef patties wheel weights (the new axles don't seem to break with these heavy weights on like the stock did). I also bought a 20kg $20 servo from Amazon. I have decided that over time I am going to slowly convert this into a Ultra 4 style rig. I have an all aluminum Wraith style 2 speed transmission (got for my bday). I love the truck and I going to run the body until it falls apart then convert to a rock bouncer metal cage body (which will likely require a wraith center skid plate). I normally run 1.9 1/10 trail trucks with my friends but when I go alone I like to keep a faster pace on the mountain so this truck is being built to accomodate that. The bigger 2.2 wheels, wider stance, more ground clearance, and lower gearing with faster motor all help this cover rocky rough ground faster than a 1.9 rig. I also make my own 2 stage foams using 1/2 inch thick EVA foam mats (Walmart or Harbor Freight are cheapest) and 1 inch thick open cell foam from a craft store. I had High hopes for the stock Hammerjaw axles as they are a HSP part so I wanted them to end up in a lot of different trucks (Red Cat uses them in the Camo TT and X4 rears) thus leading to more aluminum and steel upgrades but it didn't happen. So I Went with the AR60 Wraith axles as I am sure I'll be able to get parts for a long time. I am really tough on my rigs and need spares ( I give 6-10 hours a week of mountain trail abuse to the hobby). I believe that cheaper alternative of using 2 sets of cheap Wraith CVDs will work. I hope this helps.

I ordered the HSP lockers and a couple sets of Wraith CV axles a couple days ago. If I strip the trans gears I'll probably get an all metal SCX10 trans with slipper. Beyond that I'm hoping not to spend more money, though I know it's going to need wheels, tires and foams too.

One thing I did discover is that the steering dual-rate was turned all the way up on the controller, which allowed the servo to turn the steering far enough for the dogbones to bind. I dialed the d/r back to around 80% and now the dogbones don't bind. The Gen7s are coming with too much steering on the controller and they're breaking axles & housings like crazy too. If you allow the axles to bind, stuff breaks.

Thanks! I'll definitely be doing more videos for the truck. I wouldn't consider this to be a fast truck at all, but it's not as ridiculously slow as the E10. This truck can move at a brisk walking pace, so it's way too slow for a U4 type event. It's about the same speed as a stock SCX10.

@@BudgetRC_Channel Cool. I would say my E10 was about 5 ish MPH stock. I swapped out that motor with an Axial 26 turn and I like it. Probably 10 ish MPH as a guess. I love axial but they really got the RC community over a barrel with their pricing, they have some of the highest prices in the crawler scene and give you the most plastic of any brand kinda bs if you ask me but they are cool and have tons of upgrades. Just wish they would listen to the community a little more they never respond to anything on any social media unlike redcat and Traxxas and most horizon companies, like redcat released the gen8 pack for 199$ and people said it was a little too expensive and redcat responds by lowering the price to 169$ and they always answer questions same with Traxxas and losi it's something I've yet to see with stubborn Axial.
