Did a bit of training years ago with some ForceRecon. My company worked a night ambush scenario along a heavily forested road. We were to move our company down the road while ForceRecon set up an ambush. Then we got to set up the ambush when ForceRecon moved down the road. About a third of the company had gotten past their ambush site and then they opened up. Big score for ForceRecon. Then we set up our ambush at a different site and we never heard them. Ever. CO comes up the road and tells us to stand down because Force Recon had gone past us 20 minutes ago and we did nothing. We felt like a bunch of slack-jawed idiots. Never did figure out how they got by us and we never heard them. Good training because we really tightened up on our noise levels and moving quietly. I always wanted to ask the skipper if that was the whole purpose but he got killed in Vietnam. Semper Fi and enjoy it while it lasts.

After spending 6 years in The Corps in Infantry and Recon (Battalion) the biggest compliment I can pay Force Recon is that even in the testosterone fueled world of Marine Infantry, when you are in town drinking brown whiskey and a BIG fight breaks out and you look over in the corner and see 4 or 5 Marines sitting there quietly minding their own business, even drunk Marines know better then to go over and start something with them, because they are the Force Recon guys and no one Fucks with Force Recon Marines....and by no one I mean not even Seals and certainly not Green Beanies.

That's because the Marine Raiders had them first, and after having issues with them, they swapped them out for Glock 19's. Force Recon just got the hand-me-downs. The M45 got all of it's original issues sorted out and now they're great guns, but MARSOC was left with such a bad taste in their mouth from the first generation of M45's, that they refuse to give them a second chance

Marines and sailors with Force Company, 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, conducted limited-skills raid exercises Jan. 16, at a range at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The limited-skills raids tested the Marines by combining several areas of reconnaissance training including breaching, room clearing and enemy detainment. Limited-skills raids are vital to reconnaissance units because they effectively allow Marines to enter a hostile area and overcome enemy combatants. Each raid is different and Recon Marines have to learn various techniques for breaching and clearing buildings, according to Staff Sgt. Corey A. Gonzalez, a team leader with Force Company. During the exercise, Marines practiced breaching techniques by using explosive charges and mechanized tools to gain entrance into fortified buildings. Explosive charges are the primary method used by reconnaissance units to gain entrance into buildings; however, Marines carry secondary tools such as sledgehammers and Halligan bars in the event that an explosive charge fails to detonate. For many of the Marines, this was their first time using these charges and techniques to gain entry and clear a building.

@kevinzhang33134 жыл бұрын
Lot of SEAL haters trying to feel better about themselves Haha. Boy, have you got SEALs wrong. Their pride is not to seek recognition. But you know, they get the job done. And 400+ have written books, a bit too openly, and much of their community has hated that and feel it takes away the true meaning of being a SEAL. A good SEAL asks for no recognition unless someone asks. Marines and others would still relish a chance to boast. Comments show that to an extent. Gotta give credit to Delta Force though, they stayed the silent operators as the SEALs once were.
@Leatherneck-ib8fp4 жыл бұрын
I agree in part. I have known, and trained, many navy SpecOp guys. Back in the 80s and 90s they would not even admit in public that they were SEALs. You just admitted that 400+ books have been written by them......wanting recognition. Because of all the media hype, SEALs have the delusion that they are Americas' badasses. Delta, Marine Recon, MarSoc, and other small unit SpecOp in that community are just as well trained, in some cases even better trained. And dont forget Air Force ParaRescue. They train, get the job done, and go finish their day without the glory-hound mentallity.

The skill levels within the group varied greatly, so the team leaders and assistant team leaders with more experience provided instruction to the inexperienced Marines within their teams. Experiences on deployments have shown the importance of training and constantly practicing the techniques, according to Gonzalez, who has deployed twice to Iraq. “We train to high standards so we can attain mission success under any circumstance, “said Gonzalez. Teamwork was stressed throughout the duration of the exercise and team members rotated tasks in an effort to learn the responsibilities associated with each position within the team. The value of the training for the unit was ensuring each Marine understood the basics of limited-skills raids, according to Gonzalez. “We established a foundation for the junior Marines and executed without hesitation,” said Gonzalez. “In a real scenario, we would gauge our success by mission success. But here, it was all about establishing ourselves as a detachment. We did that very well.”

I was Army, but I must say that Recon and the Raiders seem to be the best about being quiet professionals and not leaving military to write a book or something to cash in... I’m not saying it’s bad to go get yours and make some dough. Some of the stories definitely deserve to be told... just seems like they might take that code more seriously?
