:: Gear List for this Adventure :: After receiving countless messages from viewers about supporting the channel through Amazon, I have begun using Amazon Affiliate links in the Adventure Videos and if you choose to purchase one of these products via these links I will receive a small commission which will help fund future honest reviews and adventures. The channel remains as it always was, 100% Agenda Free with no sponsored videos, no paid reviews, and I don't care if you purchase these products or not; you won't find affiliate links in review videos only in adventures. You traverse all kinds of conditions and you hardly ever use a trekking pole or walking stick. Can you share the pros and cons of using one when hiking?
@Mart687
@Mart687 3 жыл бұрын
@@chrisk6474 I've asked the same question to Luke in an email. He likes and uses trekking poles. But when recording his video's and using a camera on a tripod when hiking, he has to set it up, record a bit, go back to get the cam, set it up again etc. With trekking poles it just becomes more complicated taking your pack off and on and repeat.

Really enjoy your vid's, but cringe when seeing you have to endure that awful instant coffee, when you could just as easily have proper good ground coffee, pack freshly ground coffee in a ziplock bag, to make cowboy coffee, put water in pot then coffee grounds, bring to the boil, let simmer for approx 1 minute, take off the heat and pour a little cold water into pot to settle the grounds to the bottom, then pour into cups, enjoy, life is too short to put up with imitation coffee.

I found that tent pretty interesting, but it's no longer available on Amazon. They have a 1.5 person tent too, and that really caught my eye, until I saw it was $500 plus $30 for shipping! Interested in hearing your review of it!

Best part is all that fresh water above coming down as rain to fill an expandable jug for washing, cooling off and drinking and cooking. And then I heard how you can position logs (if any) to guide down poaring rain away from your sheter and form a drainage canal with a trowel to guide water away from your shelter to prevent the ground from becoming drenched with flood waters?

On the rivers I kayak there are lots of wild horses. They are usually in large groups of 8-20. They battle over the best submerged vegetation in the river, sometimes you will be paddling by and they break out into war. It can be sketchy when you are in the middle of them, I always try to pass them quickly. As far as big foot goes you are way more likely to see some weird lights in the forest, I've seen those plenty of times. Hope your upcoming super adventure goes absolutely superbly! Looking forward to seeing the footage. Have a good one!

I was canoeing with my son at Clinton Lake, KS. We canoed in the summer instead of hiking to avoid ticks and chiggers. We approached Woodridge Wilderness Park and saw several boys and a woman playing in the brush near the lake. I asked them how they avoided getting eaten up by the ticks and chiggers. The woman, who was the boys' aunt, told me they put flowers of sulfur in a sock and dusted their socks, shoes, and pant legs with the flowers of sulfur and the ticks and chiggers would leave them alone. I tried it later and it seemed to work, but afterwards, no amount of washing seemed to be able to get rid of the sulfur smell. So I kept those pants, socks, and shoes in the garage and put them on when I went hiking.

Re: Bigfoot and sharing food. Back in the '60s, my Dad and I were hunting on the Southern flank of Mt. St. Helens (yeah, THAT one) in the vicinity of an area known as "Ape Canyon"(!). We were walking along and old logging road, and I noticed a footprint (about 18" long) on my side of the road, headed across the road. I pointed it out to Dad, and he took a look, the checked his side. There was a matching, but opposite foot print on his side, but about 8' from the one I saw first. SOMETHING had a LOOONG stride! Sharing food with significant others and/or offspring is something as old as humanity. Get a grip, naysayers!

Lightening will strike the fastest route to the ground via electical charge, not just anywhere. Imagine a string rising up out of the top of your head at all times, its length dictated by the charge you give off. THAT is why a clearing is bad juju; you imcrease your chance of being the tallest "string"

Not really true, lots of people have the bad habit of ignoring evidence entirely, no matter how much there is, just look at the flat earth people and their rejection of most of what we know of the universe. Arrogant ignorance is sadly not an uncommon trait in people, and along with personal biases it can lead people to have a firm belief in complete fiction.

I’m very happy Susie caught the tick issue early enough. I did not and have been stuck with Lyme disease. The symptoms come and go. As for the cryptos the universe is vast who knows what’s really out there! A good rule of thumb I was taught don’t swim in a thunderstorm and don’t pop a tent under a tree. In tornado alley pitch your tent in low areas. And pray it misses you.

Oh and re bigfoot, I highly doubt if you were lucky enough (is it really lucky to see one?) to see one you would grab your camera. You would be to busy trying to process what you are seeing lol. I heard one up in gifford pinchot forest at 3500 feet at a large lake up in the mountain peaks, only one campground on it, surrounded by steep forested slopes. It was early September, I shared the lakeside sites with one other camper, an old hunter. The call occured in the middle of the night, it was so loud and booming it got us both out of our tent into the moonlight. We both stood gazing across the lake at the steep hillside trying to understand what we were hearing. The lung capacity it must have taken to make that length and depth of a call. The next morning we shared a coffee and he told me he had never heard anything like it in all the years he had been hunting. He had heard stories of Sasquatch from his friends but this was a 1st for him. And no, we didn't think to record it with our phones lol.

When you talk about Bigfoot, just keep in mind that THOUSANDS of people have been traumatized by seeing one. Hunters have given up their passion, hikers have given up their passion. Please don't make fun of these folks. They're out there and a close encounter is devastating!

Curious about food storage at this site in light of the scat and lack of trees to secure a dry bag?

Someone shares their story about Bigfoot and or their beliefs and all you can do is sit there on a log with your wife and poke fun and laugh at they say to you. I too would like to see a clear image of a Yeti but come on man, there is enough negative crap going on in the world that we don't need to make fun of other peoples beliefs. I thought you were better then that, I guess I was wrong. I know I will get hate comments from this for speaking my mind, but that's life. I'm very pleased to see that your wife is back again and that she has made a full recovery. Much respect from Canada.

Actually if you were to look up about the facts of ‘lightning’, the bolt itself can’t hit earth. I know, what is he talking about? It has to make a connection with a ‘streamer’ to form a complete strike. The streamer can reach up from a blade of grass, a person, building etc. It connects with the bolt and now it’s a FULL formed lighting strike! Storm is positive, between the storm and earth is negative, the earth is positive. Whew, lesson of the day. 👽oh by the way, a lighting bolt is about 3” in diameter.

Really Luke! Luke i found a older video of you and Susan camping in the same spot same tent you were camping this time. Grayson Highlands same Blueridge mountains in the back round. This clip was off of the truth and a bit boring. We know how to make coffee and hike. Not a Adventure for me.

My horse was the tallest of the bunch of us who rode trails in/around the Blue Ridge mountains in sw Virginia. I could have 3 or 4 people riding in front of me (including my son) and I’d be the one hitting all the webs.

Hi Luke, I'm 71 and a longtime camping lover. I don't hike for camping anymore. I use my car... but always in what we call rustic camping sites, just one notch below wild camping. Minimum equipment with comfort, otherwise my sweetie won't follow me. I always bring my 12 ft canoe and sometime have to do short portages. It's a must to camp by a water body. After all those years of experience, here's my equipment: pop-up tent (4 persons) and a tarp for protection against the sun and the rain, even heavy rain. Happy camping.

Hi Luke and Susie as a horse owner I just want to say for informational purpose that most likely the two horses you encountered were probably a mare and gelding or stallion. If the mare was in heat which she most likely was she would do a lot of squealing if the male horse was sniffing on her. They like to play hard to get until they decide the time is right. A lot of mares are really vocal. Hope this explains a little as to what may have been going on. You just happen to be in the middle of their love fest! Great video as usual!

So, why didn't you collect the rain water instead of hiking down to the stream? Maybe pack a small sheet of plastic sheathing to wrap around found fire wood to protect it from the elements so that you can use it if you want to. Nice adventure.
