M1A1 Abrams: All you need to know about Ukraine's latest Western tank

The first of the US-supplied M1A1 Abrams tanks has arrived in Ukraine in what is hoped to be a significant upgrade in the arming of Kyiv.
The US had promised to provide 31 Abrams tanks at the start of the year, the number in Ukraine remains unknown.

I'd argue with the first bullet point re "Very similar capability to the M1A2". These do not have the Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer (CITV) and therefore do not have the "Hunter-Killer" capability. Plus I suspect that the Thermals and Gunner's sights are not to M1A2 standard.

Irregardless to the point you made the machine is still one of the most lethal tanks ever designed. Only 9 Abrams were lost in all of the Iraq War while the Russians tanks were destroyed by the boatloads. There was never an accurate account, except that if you're going to be in battle and you have to be in a tank, this one is the one to be in.

I was a paratrooper in Ft. Bragg in 1985. While sitting on the edge of a dropzone when 5 or 6 passed us on a muddy road from the NC Guard. One of them ran through a rather large hole and we saw it go "Airborne", which was our job. The thing landed so smoothly you'd have thought it was part aircraft. I tried to change my MOS from 11H but they promoted me to E-5. I eventually went aviation but those were some amazing machines, I was truly impressed. It's a terminator. It's bigger and stronger but slower and requires more maintenance and upkeep, though the maintenance and upkeep is much easier. They also use a special kind of ammunition known as depleted uranium, which is self-sharpening. Unlike other rounds which crumple and crumble, depleted uranium rounds only get sharper when piercing armor. It can punch a hole through just about anything. The only time an Abrams has been destroyed was by other Abrams.

It's going to be interesting match , seeing how Abrams MBT does when it comes up against the Russian anti tank kid . From other Russian tanks they won't get a look but Russian drones , artiller , air to surface missiles will cause issues I'm sure as the missile are fire from below the horizon 70 odd km away so Abrams will need air cover support for sure .

High torque, excelleration, multiple usable fuels. Ukraine has a lot of experience with Turbines, they use them themselves on the T-80 series of Soviet tanks

They are quieter and lighter as well as smaller than ICE engines. Reported as more reliable but compared to a well maintained diesel is a tough call. They are thirsty though!!

Those maximum speed stats are wrong. even offroad the tank has a max speed of 45 mph. This is because the M1 Abrams has a governor, once removed, it can reach speeds of 60 mph.

They will burn just as easily as the "superior" Leopard tank. Also because of their turbine engine they use 300 gallons of fuel every 8 hours and the AFU will be completely unable to maintain them. So Ukraine will run out of fuel very quickly.
