My father served in the fleet air arm on carriers out in the Pacific during WW2. He didn't often talk about it, but he said enough to make me realise that you had to pull your weight and look after yourself and your mates. I wish these young men and women every success in their careers, but i fear for them....serving on under manned and undergunned ships..... that professional and hard edged Navy of my fathers day has long since gone. Mores the pity.

yes we need moer ships but no its far more we ahve around 10 capable of going to sea and 8-10 at sea already , additionaly we have 8 patrol ships , 1 in carribean, 1 in gibraltar, 1 in falkladns, 2 in pacific and 3 at home, they are patrol ships and do need moer weaponry but are still 90 or so metres and weigh 2200 tonnes and can project power across the world , we need more ships yes but dont believe the media entirely ever but especially when it comes to our dwindiling but still mighty powerful military.

If the Royal Navy gave people a decent contract like the Dutch of 30 years , it would keep more of its specialists. The problem is that senior officers have no time for the lower deck and care only about their next promotion .
@thetruthhurts767510 ай бұрын
You CAN sign on for 25 years right from day one. The main problem is that forces people in the Uk, and USA get more pay working for "security" firms, not contract length.

@@thetruthhurts7675 it’s a two tier system to the detriment of the “ Lower Deck” as many officers continue in service past 60 years of age and just take part time work after that. It’s time to level up the playing field and give the “ Lower Deck “ as good as terms of service as the officer Corps…

@@davidlawton7845 Wierdly way back in 1978 we were being taught by lots of ex chief petty officers, and ex petty officers in our course. These were all guys who had served 25 years and then transfered to the civil service as educators for the Royal navy. Every single one was an ex Artificer. Retention is about money, and nothing else.
