In this video we look at considerations when laying out a ground plane on a PCB when working with a mixed signal designs. If you want to ensure you are making accurate noise free ADC measurements in your design this video series is a must watch.

Many engineers forget that "ground is not ground, ground is a wire leading to ground."

the ocean analogy is very helpful - hadn't heard it before !

At about 8:28 you are illustrating how the current would flow back but I think you simply overlooked the fact that your current is flowing through one trace (ie. it is "crossing" it.).. :) Great video

RSD academy had one more element for ground that I thought was informative. Ground must be able to sink or source as much current as required for the circuit without changing. The max current required for the circuit must not cause an appreciable potential difference between the return to the source (hard zero) and the furthest point on the ground plane or ground wire.

Sounds like you have a ground loop issue in your microphone circuit. Seriously good content though. Well done

Hello, First of all thanks for the video. I have a question regarding the ground. Is it necessary to use different ground (AGND, DGND, GND) Planes while doing PCB design In CAD software or just GND signal for everything?

Great video! Are you familiar with Henry Ott's book, "Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineering"? He has a wonderful chapter on Mixed-Signal Layout. You might want to check it out.
