I don’t knock people his age when it comes to music like this. Rock when he was in his youth is such a different sound than what it is now. Metal and jazz exposes how most people are actually pretty close-minded to music, which is fine, most people seem to only really like 1 to maybe 3 genres of music, but so many people like to say or think "I like everything" when you ask what types of music they like. Diverse pools and extreme forms of music seem to mostly be for audiophile musician types.
@Buswork2929 ай бұрын
I used to be that way. I would only listen to metal and electronic music. Somewhere along the way I wanted to discover music and just started listening to anything I enjoy. I’m very open with genre but I’m pickier when it comes to what I download. I honestly just love music.
@skepticalbystander9 ай бұрын
@@Buswork292 I used to also when i was younger, I only liked classic rock and classic hip hop, and barely dabbled in the beginnings of hard rock, now, even though I mainly listen to extreme death metal 90% of the time cuz that's the genre I write my music in, and is by far my favorite thing on this planet that isn't my girl or a family member, I thoroughly understand why 99% of everything I hear exists, and totally enjoy probably 90% of everything I hear, and partially or mostly enjoy the rest. There are pockets of genres I can't really stand, but most of the stuff I can't seriously get into is polka and yodeling type things, and I hate bubblegum pop, and though I understand it, and can take at least something away from it, I hate how emo and glam metal colors outsiders' perspectives of what metal is. The other day I signaled to a coworker how ridiculous a small group of young emo kids were dressed trying to be extra overly edgy-looking, and he mostly listens to hip hop as far as I know, I know he at least also likes reggae when i have it playing in the back room, but anyway, he said "that's your people right there," and I was compelled to say nooooooo way, metal and emo are extremely different, emo wishes it was metal, pff* lolz! I will personally gatekeep emo from metal forever, it is a disgrace to extreme metal :P they just get lucky with cool riffs sometimes, haha!

Dreamwake is new to me, so thanks you for that. Very cool sound. Reminds me if Peach Club era Emarosa was a metalcore band.

i gained some interesting perspective from this. i now realize that sometimes it's not about if it sounds good, sometimes it's about pushing the limits. like some of the sounds that Will Ramos and Christian Roche and Alex Terrible can make aren't all "good sounding" things, but they are sick as hell and impressive because of how extreme they are and how much they push the limits of what it's possible for a human voice to sound like

I hope eventually they can dip their toes back in. Thinking on how I got into metal, it was just slowly going from songs with slightly heavy riffs to a yell every once in a while until you reach stuff like DARKO lmao

Hell yeah for some Dreamwake representation even though they're a bit on the lighter side all things considered. The girl has already been inducted, she just doesn't know it yet, she could definitely get into bands with heavier instruments, but minimal screaming like Dayseeker, Moodring, Sleep Token, Dayshell, etc

As a person who loves Metalcore and some Metal, I personally would never even try to bridge the music gap by showing someone Knocked Loose. I don’t know what it is about them, maybe it’s the ultra hardcore vocals, I just can’t do it. Coming from a guy who absolutely loves Modern Metalcore bands like Bury Tomorrow, Architects, Wage War, Spiritbox etc.
@XAVR_9 ай бұрын
It's the aggression I think, they have a very "dark" sound
@Urvos9 ай бұрын
I love metalcore and deathcore, deathcore being my preferred genre. I just don't like bryan's vocals.
@Blottski9 ай бұрын
@@Urvos It's interesting because all of the bands I listed have vocalists that do perform into a very heavy vocal sound, but they never really cross into that dark deathcore vocal type. I think in the bands I listed you can find songs people who don't listen to metal/metalcore would appreciate but yeah. I think if you wanted someone who listens more to Pop or Country to never consider "Heavy music" ever again, showing them Knocked Loose would probably do it haha.
@Urvos9 ай бұрын
@@Blottski The only band I listen to out of the ones you listed is wage war. The thing about knocked loose though is are mostly deathcore, but Bryan's vocals are that really aggressive hardcore yell/scream. Deathcore vocals are definitely dark, but I wouldn't always call them aggressive. As where knocked loose's vocals are really aggressive, in your face. Plus the heaviness of the deathcore instrumental, it would definitely steer most people away.
@Blottski9 ай бұрын
@@Urvos Great point about Knocked Loose. I didn't know how to describe that style but you nailed it. As an aside, I've always used Breaking Benjamin as an "ease-em-in" kind of band personally because for most people half of their songs are "heavy metal" to your average pop or rap music enjoyer haha.

metal, especially that with screaming vocals, is so amazing at conveying certain emotions, and wether or not you enjoy the sound of it, its hard to deny metal’s ability to fuel that emotional sensation.
