A nice morning activity to go with my Sippin and Tippin to The 44 Western direction! That old Ford sounds nice purrrrrring away. To me it’s a pleasant sound that take me back to my Grandparents farm and that smell of the tractor shed with the oil and Vedall grease gun, wrenches, shovels, rakes, plows and everything else you can think of. I always Love to see that clean polished steel of a well used plow blade. It sits there for months and gets a coating of rust and ends up with a fine polish, almost like a mirror. Often you’d see a bunch of sea gulls picking over the freshly worked fields, being close to the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay. And now I’m thinking of all those delicious blue fin crabs 🦀 from the bay, which is about 40 minuets from us to the northern point. The later in the season the better the crabs as they become more well fed after the cold weather. So memory lane visitation again but it’s a gift to have good memories with those we Love who have passed on and made us part of who we are. And all those Fine Cups of JO shared and the farm house kitchen that always had it ready. My Grandmother used 8 o’clock coffee, A&P brand at the time, which I use to this day. Now ain’t that something? All these great experiences all because of a Ford Tractor with Tractorman 44 and Son-in-law! NICE! Kind Thanks and a Fine Day from this Holler to your Holler! DaveyJO

Hot doggies DaveyJO, I'm glad the fancy electronic ignition sparked not only the pretty blue Ford to life but also your fond memories of grannies kitchen and coffee all the way across the great state of Pennsylvania !! It IS funny though how our mind works and the silliest things that flip it backwards about 50 years. Like passing a pig farm...the smell instantly takes me back to the hog pen behind the barn where we fattened them with skim milk. Remembering the way the bigger ones would stick their snoots under the back end of the smaller ones at the trough and literally force 'em up and out of the way !! All the squeeling and goings on and having to either duck the nasty wet stinky wads of pig poop or just swipe 'em off your arms, chest and occasionally your face !! Yep all that from just a whiff of an odor at 60 miles per hour !! Sooooo with that thought, enjoy your day and know you at this exact instant are being honored by myself and the Missus with our second pot of nasty-black and piping hot JO !! ( Yes, I said pot-o-JO, not cuppa-JO) LOL

Seeded it all and put a few apple trees way in the back for the deer.. That was 41 years ago.. The tractor is what I want to email you about.. Thinking about you today. Coming home from Plainwell I stopped and looked at a Dearborn Buzz Saw for the 3 point on a 8N or it's little brothers. It was pretty rusty and needed some work. I don't have room or need for one since I burn maybe a 1/4 cord of wood a year. It would be fun to fix it up. Oh well I left one in the old barn just because I had no place to put it and still don't. 😁😎 That is a greasy field to be plowing. The wet dirt sticks to the mold board and doesn't want to curl at all. I have only plowed a few laps at plow day and a couple gardens. Took a lot of work to figure out how the plow is set.
@tractorman44612 жыл бұрын
Well, that would've been a cool item to bring home for any reason. LOL But I understand not really 'needing' it. But then again I don't 'need' more than one or two tractors....OK...not more than ten, but what the heck !! LOL It IS a bit sad though to know you had to leave the one behind. It WAS a little wet for sure, but plowing is fun for those of us that have fond memories of youthful hours following a furrow. But for actual farmers that have hundreds of acres to turn under I am sure the 'fun factor' has been replaced with a degree of boredom.

The exhaust pipe went down and to the back. It was a good running machine. Hard to beat those old 3 cylinder gas Fords. I know I have told you before, but I never had any trouble with it starting as long as the battery was strong. Even when it would get down in the teens. Good to see the 2000 doing some field work.Used mine to take care of the road and move logs for firewood.

All without typing anything. I got married. Lydia got a job selling Zerox Memory Writers. In 1982 I got a computer for Christmas. I was typing all weekend because when you shut it off the program was gone. I bought a tape drive for it. It had a spreadsheet. Not Lotus. It ran in Basic. I've got 4 of those Dearborn 2 bottoms...love those things. The only time I don't use stay bars is when I'm plowing, plow must be able to shift if it hits an obstruction, when the plow is set correctly it will not track off center. Lengthen the top link and adjust the cross bar for width of cut and you'd be good to go. Believe it or not if the ground is a tacky I put a set of chains on my old Fords, no ballast in tires and I hardly ever slip.
@tractorman44612 жыл бұрын
Thanks Daniel for the tips on adjustment. Chains would work quite well I bet. I never thought of that but it makes a lot of sense !! This is the only set of Dearborns I have. Is it normal for the plows to have the furrow wheel or am I thinking right that a lot of them are not fitted with it.
@danieltravis28502 жыл бұрын
@@tractorman4461 Known as rolling landslide but more commonly called tailwheel, most were fitted with them. When the plow is set with the correct top link length (plow level front to back when in the ground) the landslide will ride against the furrow wall and keep the plow tracking nicely. The rolling landslide is adjustable and should be set about a 1/2" below the bottom of the moldboard bottom. It always takes me a few turns to get mine set right, but when I do it's very satisfying.

@tractorman44612 жыл бұрын
Well now I've not heard of that term OR of the practice of discing before and after plowing. But he might've been right about air pockets. After wheat, barley and soy beans were sowed, we'd pass over the sown ground with the cultipacker. There is an obvious visible improvement on fields cultipacked over ones just sown with seed and let go and the 'air pocket' concept is probably the reason why. @tractorman44615 ай бұрын
Make sure it starts easy after its good and warmed up. I'd also suggest a quick trip down the lane in road gear to see how badly the front end components are worn. Hopefully the steering wheel will start moving the front tires left or right without excessive movement. I'd suggest using each brake to see how well they hold on an incline. I'd take a voltmeter along and check the static voltage on the battery without it running. It should be 12.6v or so. Then start it and check it again. If the alternator or generator is working the voltage will read 14V or more. If it doesn't change, there may be an issue in the charging circuit. Look closely at the pto shaft for excessive wear. Sometimes the splines will be half way worn through indicating a lot of heavy use. Ask how it starts in freezing temperatures. Look at the dipstick to see if the oil is black or nice and clean. If you have bright sunlight look closely at the oil sliding down the dipstick....if you have worn or wearing crank and rod bearings, you'll see sparkles in the oil in the sunlight. Check the gauges for operation. Fords have Lucas electricals and they are expensive to buy replacement parts for. They will have 12vdc sensors for the water temp and oil pressure that might have to come from Ford. Not totally sure because I eliminate them and go with a total rewire job, but that's just me. Ask if you can hook it to a heavy three point implement and check the lift for operation..including shutting the tractor off with the implement elevated to see if it bleeds off quickly, indicating wear. Does that sound like enough of a list for you....?? Good luck with your search. They are pretty good tractors.

@@tractorman4461 thank you. How expensive are parts for this tractor?
@tractorman44615 ай бұрын
@@narcissistinjurygiver2932 Typically the OEM parts are more expensive because they are dealer items. So every Ford that comes to live here gets a total upgrade electrically to over the counter guages, charging components etc as soon as they develop wiring issues. Now I just go to NAPA or O-Reilly's for repairs. For the most part, they seem to be very reliable once converted.

Wendell, I'll have to browse through your other videos on this, but I may be buying a 1965 Ford 2000 with the 3 cylinder gas engine. I'm assuming yours is the same engine, 3 cylinder gas? How easy is it to get parts for the 1965 to 1975 Ford 2000s gas engine ones?
@tractorman4461 Жыл бұрын
Yes, its the 3 cylinder gas. Parts were very easily bought when the Kubota dealer in Farmington was still a Ford New Holland dealer as well. They had rafts of old and modern Ford parts in stock, but I believe they are strictly Kubota now. I haven't had to buy parts lately, but I'm sure our friend Rippey has everything you'll need.

@@tractorman4461 Unfortunately after making arrangements to come pick the tractor up, the seller sold it on me. I guess I don't need to be making deals with that type of seller anyways. I did find another Ford 2000, a 1967, which is in a rougher shape cosmetically, but a bit further away in Troy, Missouri. The one that sold on me was in Festus.

I have been wanting to try my 2N and Ferguson plow. I have plowed with garden tractors and a Cub several times, but not with the Ford yet. Plowing is an art that I really haven't mastered yet, and I can appreciate anyone doing it. From my time plowing, that's not a bad job, pretty decent considering the conditions. The ground is pretty wet. I do know setting a plow up will vary from area to area, and it's not easy even in the best of soil conditions. Here are a couple of videos of an older (early 60s) Ford 2000 plowing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWmzfqB8obeWrLM kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6Pbo614Z6qSiJI

I'm much better with a set of trip plows because that's what I grew up with. I used to plow gardens around town with the CA Allis and their version of mounted plow and it did a near perfect job. These Dearborn in better condition could have done a bit better. But we didn't really spend lot of time fine tuning the adjustments. I'll check out the vids Terry and thank you buddy.
