Not bad those engine can run for over 300k miles only issue is the water pump other then that great engines ...
@stevemccooleq
@stevemccooleq 4 ай бұрын
I agree. There were millions of those engines made and probably over 95% of them went 150k miles or more before the pump failed. Maintenance also comes into play, keeping good oil and good coolant will increase your chances of avoiding early water pump failure.

If the weep is not caught in time.. the leak out the front seal becomes more than the weep can handle. Sending all that coolant into thr engine. As your driving down the highway.

I was blessed! Happened to notice my 2014 SHO (97k mi) coolant overflow tank was waaay low. After refilling it (and not seeing any leaks) then driving 10 miles or so it was down again! Had it flatbedded to the dealer today. Sure enough, was leaking out the weep hole! Quote for replacement of pump and timing components roughly $5k 😮 Luckily no coolant detected within the oil 😅

@@johnnysuber2186 no than is not true. If is v6 it needs water pump only about $1700. If it needs water pump and timing chain kits it cost about $2500 to 3k because the engine needs to come out because of space it car is bigger like ford explorer about $1700
@andresalderete
@andresalderete 7 ай бұрын
In this case ford engineers are not dumb. That is a space problem. You cannot have an outside water pump with a transverse engine. Same with rhe dodge durango 4x2. Plus the problem with the water pump is the orange and green coolant. In time it deteriorates the seal. Ford upgraded the coolant to the yellow coolant

They are they could’ve made the Taurus rear wheel drive. Then again, they are smart, they knew during the time before people figured out how to take the water pump out without dropping the engine, they knew people would come to them for servicing.

You pulled the intake,vc,timing covers ,fenderwell,coolant accessories in one hour? You must turn 780 hours a week.or you should love these.you could do 5 a day easy.

If you pulled the water pump from pulling in the bay to water pump laying on the bench, especially your first time doing one, you are the best mechanic I've ever seen. After doing one,I could maybe get it apart in an hour and half. But valve covers and wiring take almost and hour by itself.then the belts, tension,mount,ps pump bolts ,inner fender,coolant and oil ,timing cover bolts,plus timing chains and water pump bolts ain't happening in an hour.

Agreed. I have a video on how to do this job on my channel, and I'm currently in the process of editing another one, so I've done this job several times. There's no way you're getting all that stuff off in an hour by yourself, especially on your first one. Labor manual calls for 9.8 hours (Taurus and Explorer anyway) to do this job, you're kind of implying that you can get it done in 3 or less. I'm not questioning your skills as a mechanic, you might be better than me for all I know, but I do question your ability to judge time.

@@WhatTheDuckAuto The fact that you think it's believable that you could do 2-3 of these jobs in a day makes me think that you haven't even done a single one. If I had to guess, I'd say the technician had you cleaning off the timing cover while he put in the actual work!
