Picking knowledge if you would lend some? I am looking at a 70"s era Ford 4500 loader hoe version. Plate says its a D5110k. Farmer in area had it for many years around farm. Always kept in Barn. It is the 4 speed, no clutch w/ power forward/reverse. Farmer passed away few years ago and son inlaw said it was 8 years ago it got stuck in I'm thinking 1st. Gear shift -right -forward. It sat in barn for years and they are clearing stuff out. The bypassed the neutral safety and it starts drives and everything works but cannot move shifter. I have some mech smarts but learning always and not afraid to tackle a project. Have you any exp on this type trans, could be as simple as the forks worn. The power fwd/reverse lever is pretty finicky as it welllllll used.. I looked machine over and see what I think might be a hyd filter wedged by frame below where a clutch pedal is on many tractors. It looks due to less than a baby finger space from filter edge to frame and the color of it that it might not have been changed for eons. I'm wondering if filtration or lack of it could have sped up wear on everything in trans and the fingers being high getting less lube causing massive wear. If your aware, could I take the small 8-10 bolt cover with shifter and possibly weld/ beef up fingers to close to original? Sorry for the book; but info is key: )))) Best; Tom Bailey

yes indeed got to really keep that cooling system up on that diesel. But getting that radiator recored or replaced is a good thing to do after all it is 33 years old it could use a bit of TLC to keep her goin another 30 yrs. Thanks for sharing

Yep, it's time for some TLC. I'm going to put a little lipstick on it this time and hope to do a full restore next winter. Thanks for watching!

The older stuff is usually pretty simple. We have a bunch of Oliver crawler tractors.

I had to pull my radiator off of a dozer one day it took me almost 2 hours to get it off. The nose had at least 30 or 40 bolts holding it on then there was another 30 or 40 bolts on the radiator. The radiator was approximately 5' x 5' feet and 8 inches thick.

Haha, I guess they didn't want that radiator to vibrate loose ;) I bet that thing weighed a ton!

Thanks Joe! I plan on doing a full restoration at some point, but time is limited this year. I am going to freshen up the sheet metal while I got it off though. I've got a new wiring harness and decals but probably will wait for the full restore to put those in.

That was some nasty coolant that came out of there. I'm surprised the muffler came off that easy.
