Thanks so much for the video!! I have a houseguest/freeloader/mechanic that opened the thing up like the Tasmanian devil not labeling anything and I've been using this video to help put stuff back together again wires, vacuum lines, hoses etc. after the head replacement. Two thumbs up!!!

Currently getting my was kicked by these parts. Initially was going to replace intake/exhaust manifold gasket due to oil leaking. Struggled literally all dauwith a completely rusted egr tube. Finally got it off but going to replace that. Didn't realize the alternator bracker had to come out so while I'm at it going to upgrade to 3g. The pivot bolt gave me hell. Latest road block is the smog pump the bolt catches on to the pulley when it comes out...
@SteveStoltz6 жыл бұрын
Yeah the older and rustier they are, the worse it gets. Now that I think about it it seems like a remember some issue with the smog pump, that was probably it.

Hey Steve, Great Video, I need to do the same to my old truck (91 F150 4.9L) Great to see what I am getting into. Thank you for posting this. Is there any more video of this job that you did not post? Thank You, Rob

Are Jay sorry this is all the video I have, I found it on an old memory card so I just put up what was there. It’s quite a job but if you take your time it’s not so bad, penetrating oil and air tools help a lot.

When you said you had an exhuast leak. Where was it coming from? I have one that seems like its coming from the EGR tube area.

Yeah that air pump is a pain, those bolts get corroded pretty bad. When they get this old there is always a potential can of worms lurking behind every repair lol.

My '88 is leaking fuel down onto the back exhaust manifold...not sure where its coming from. I replaced the #4 injector back in 2003...but im not sure. Guess ill pull the manifold and see where its coming from

First time tackling this job today. Luckily the truck I'm working on is not a rust bucket so hopefully the bolts don't break on me. The question I have is if the old bolts look OK can you reuse them or replace? Lastly what are the torque specs for the exhaust bolts. Thanks for the how to video👍🏻
@SteveStoltz2 жыл бұрын
If the bolts look good you can reuse them, I don't remember the torque spec off hand but they are in the Haynes manual.
@johnny4713ify2 жыл бұрын
@@SteveStoltz OK sounds good, from what I've researched those bolts on a 1996 are unobtainable from dealer and have to find them aftermarket or source them out someplace. It's my brother in laws truck so he's actually coming over with the Hanes today🤣. BTW how did you take the plenum off the intake passed the EGR tube? I got a bit frustrated and just removed it completely since it went through the plenum itself. It's a CA vehicle so im assuming that may have something to do with it because I see other videos of people just lift it off🤷♂️

@Stucknarutt4 жыл бұрын
Hey man, hope all's going well with you in these pandemic times. I'd like to see if I could get your opinion and knowledge related to this. I'm in the middle of (paused on right now) a head job on this motor in my 95 E-250. I have the same smog tube/air rail/air manifold (whatever you want to call it) out of the head as you. I had to remove it for the resurfacing and other necessary work. It's pretty much destroyed now after as two of the feeder tubes came out of the rail and I had to cut another to remove. Nothing but the threaded fittings are steel so I cant weld it to repair. Do you know anything about total smog delete on these ? I did find and spent $10 on specialty bolts to plug those holes in the head today. Just wondering about any negative effects from getting rid of it, pump and all.
@SteveStoltz4 жыл бұрын
The main issue in deleting the pump would be causing the cat to not work efficiently potentially causing it to plug up, otherwise you could probably find a smog pump delete pulley or shorter belt and be fine. You shouldn't have any codes with that year.
@Stucknarutt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. In the little bit of research I've done, I've read the same as you say about the cat. I've found that air rail ranging from around $60 to $160, online and from O'Reilly. Most who do smog delete also remove the cat and straight pipe it. The belt is no problem. They have one for no pump. Oh well, just another dilemma and decisions to make in this "Fiasco" of a pretty big project, lol. I want her to be right, reliable and lasting regardless.

Great video! Any chance you'd know where to get the replacement parts for the EGR pieces coming from the intake manifold? I am in particular asking about the EGR valve from the railing as well the hose that goes from the valve to the smog pump. The previous owner deleted them and blind folded the manifold. I got the rail but seem unable to find those two parts and I am going crazy as the truck does not pass emissions. TIA!

Thanks, I would check Rockauto.com, If they don't have it I would be surprised. Otherwise a salvage yard may be your best bet.

Its an air injection manifold, that is supplied by the air pump. Its pretty common for the fittings to rot out near the head and create leaks.

Sam yes there is an exhaust gasket, if I remember correctly the intake and exhaust use the same one piece gasket. It been a while since I did that one.
