I do know that looks like a good valve job. Who ever did my 040 over 351w sucked. Those valve stems had to be cut off a quarter in to even be used. So I threw them heads away and put e7 heads stock on it. Runs real good. 3 angle grid and stainless is the only way to go..

Why would you want to use an adjustable pilot on the machine, cut .010+ runout into the seat on the machine, then use a carbide pilot with a stone to correct and redo the seat. You have it backwards. The point with the machine, is to get the seats cut as close as possible, get all the depths equal, and to cut the desired profile. Then do a quick bump touch up truing cut with the stone. The carbide pilot in the machine makes this MUCH easier.
@Myvintageiron75129 жыл бұрын
+Frank W you will never get that seat concentric with a cutter weather you use a solid pilot or not we had serdi machines at my last job the serdi rep swore it could be done so we challenged him to show us and guess what he couldn't do it. we tried everything on a Serdi a kwik way and even a Sunnen and Van Norman with the same result the cutters just don't make a concentric seat to answer the question the reason we do this is because it takes forever to grind a hard seat with a stone and you use up your stones fast the cutters hog away the majority of your seat quickly and locate your seat location and width the stone is used to finish the seat and make it perfectly concentric I have used the solid carbide pilots and the adjustable pilots with the seat cutters and there really is no difference in the results you are swatting at flee's when I hear someone bringing up something like this that doesn't really matter it usually means your dealing with someone who lacks experience thanks for the input

why don't they do a radius cut on valve jobs on the head, with radius cut valves? what am i missing? I have a set o 68/69 DOVE heads that i want to grind with over sized valves for my 72 tbird with 44,00 miles on it. of course i expect to add a cam and intake also. considering the quadrajet but not set on that, the goal of course is about 500 hp. guidance requested, and what would you charge to do the build for me? I'll probably put this same question on a new video, since i don't think you look at the older video's anymore. thank you.
@rondyechannel13994 жыл бұрын
Bigger valves aren't needed for a 72 Tbird as you are not racing it and will never spin it high enough to use any extra flow gained by a larger valve. The early heads will pick up the performance quite a lot by itself by raising the compression for a boost in torque, which is what's needed in that big car. Use an Edelbrock performer and an edelbrock air door secondary carb, not an emissions Qjet. You may have to run a cam with extra duration to lower the dynamic compression ratio (running comp.) so as to not ping getting that weight moving. You should get 450 hp. and 550 tq., which is what you need.
@joelbecker31228 жыл бұрын
nice work! what size intake and exhaust valve are those?? did you do any work on the runners or just the bowl and throat? good work though!!
@rondyechannel13994 жыл бұрын
They are the 429CJ valve sizes 2.24 and 1.72 which is common for these. I have 2 sets of these early heads, a C9VE, and a D0VE and they work well. The CJ's are the best but very rare D0OE-R. These early heads are preffered over the later larger chamber heads because their is more room in the exhaust port as the smaller c. chamber does not encroach into the port and the air injection bosses are much smaller. Porting these will make a huge difference. Especially blending and widening the bowl up to that valve.

Here is a tip for you. Invest in some carbide pilots. Those adjustable pilots work in a pinch, with stones, but not with a single point carbide cutter in a machine. I can tell your seats are WAY out of concentricity. When you drop the valve onto the freshly cut seat, it goes thud, and sticks, at the end of the video when you take the valve out, it is stuck, or wedged into the seat, because it probably has .010 runout. Buy the carbide pilots and you will be amazed.
@Myvintageiron751210 жыл бұрын
I agree and I do use Carbide pilots. for the finial grinding of the seats, Here's a tip for you even with them (carbide Pilots) you will never be able to cut seats on any machine even a serdi with no run out I went through this with a serdi machine years ago no matter what we did we still had run out so because of that I use the seat cutters to remove the majority of material and always finish seats with a Sioux stone and then lapping them in, if your not doing this you will have run out even with Carbide pilots

These early heads have plugs in the end of the casting, which plug the entire inside tube. Doesn't matter if it blows a little between exhaust ports.

How you doing again my name is John I had asked you if you had cylinder heads for sale I believe those are the exact same ones I have on this Mark 3 Continental I've been trying to help friend out with obviously to rebuild the engine completely is the right way to go however I'm sure you've been around long enough and I've experienced as you said in some of your videos customer always don't see the work involved but they do know how to count the money, and then in the end they complain if something isn't right LOL. In any case I've been working on cars a long time but I've never rebuilt the motor and I learned a lot from you and I definitely will learn a lot more as long as I live I have some photos I'd like to send you if I can I could use your advice but for the most part I need to know about the heads how do I go about purchasing them from you what do you need from me is there another way I could reach you I guess do you have a Gmail or email or should I contact you through Facebook call you directly just let me know please. I guess I'm just looking for a standard rebuilt head the ones that were on the car and I removed them the seals are all broken they blocked and clogged the oil return passages and starved the motor of oil for a very short time luckily everything still spins good the crank and mortar turned easily. Basically I'm just doing the top end new timing chain and gears I'm thinking maybe the camshaft and lifters I'm not sure of course new heads and cleaning all the passages but if I showed you some photos Maybe you could just buy your experience you could tell me that I'm crazy or the customers crazy if they don't do something the cylinders look okay there's no scratching of the cylinders, but they do seem a little shiny I guess you would say they're glazed I'm not sure I took photos. Pistons look original and each cylinder seems to be smooth, there's no Ridge. Well in any case sorry about messaging you a book I'm just trying to give you all the information you might need in order to help me. I guess I'd like to know how much the heads are just your basic rebuild and if I could send you photos or if you need information regardless I do need two heads, so when you have a chance let me know how much when do I send the money and how long do you think it will take thank you very much
@rondyechannel13994 жыл бұрын
Most any decent machine shop can do this work. It is quite common. Those early Lincoln motors with the cast rockers had a habit of chewing up the ends of the valves. Also some wallowed out the valve guides. If they are ok just put some new seals and change those old valve springs. Lap the valves and should be good to go.

How much are 460 Dove heads core Worth in 2018?
@rondyechannel13994 жыл бұрын
The word Dove is wrong to id these by. It is D 0 v e as in decade B 50's, C 60's, D 70's, E 80's, etc. second digit is engineered year, so D0 is 70. You can find the almost exact same head as a C8VE, 68 or a C9VE as 69, or C9AE. Usually worth 200-300 bare.
