Sloppier sloppy mechanics, good stuff. I just did this exact combo on my 300k mile 4.0L from 1995. I was surprised how much valve clatter I still had on first startup with new rockers and pushrods with the high volume pump. Turns out both 1) they just needed some break-in, and 2) I had a bad 02 sensor that was absolutely washing fuel into the motor going in to closed loop (not ideal before the rings are seated). Replaced the 02 sensor within the first 20 minutes of run time, and changed oil after 200 miles, and things are much better. As an aside, the replacement front main seal + redi-sleeve was an absolute pain. It kept wanting to precess off-axis in the bore. I had to completely wipe down the timing cover hole with a brak-kleen soaked towel, then add silicone sealant to the outside of the seal for enough sticktion. Also also, nice to see you don't have the 94-95 window style cam synchronizer. The hat style seems much simpler.

Thanks for covering the oil pickup difference....my pump came from Napa, but now I know why they included a flyer saying it needs a Melling pickup. Apparently my pump is the high-volume version...which is good! Part number helps a ton, too...wasn't sure what it was they wanted.

You put the drive shaft in backwards bevel side goes down into pump

I just had a 92 4.0 SOHC rebuilt, and the shop left the synchronizer out, although I think it’s just a gear to drive the oil pump, because there is NO sensor on the top. Anyway I can’t get the synchronizer or gear back seated in the port where it came from.

The early 91/92 had the dummy synchronizer, and to install that one is a pain you just have to try multiple times to install.

Have you started the engine yet? Those fresh bearing with tight tolerances paired with the high volume pump could overpressurize the system. My rebuilt 4.0 did it with the M328 pump. The oil filter exploded with 120 psi idle pressure

Hi, what did you do to fix that issue??? I just out my 4.0 back together and put a new oil pump (not high flow) as well as new bearings, and it’s also blowing out the oil filter. I can get the car started about 4 times before the oil filter seal blows out or the filter itself blows out… I was thinking something it was in issue with the oil pump itself

I have a 94 ford explorer would it do well with the hi volume oil pump ? I bought it used and odometer shows 265 k engine runs too strong not to have been rebuilt a head job or replaced.

If the engine is running well with no oil pressure issues. I would say just leave it alone. The only thing this high volume pump helps with is oil delivery to the rocker shafts in the heads. I only installed this pump due to help with delivery, and I also rebuilt the engine.

Do you REALLLLLLLY have to pull the motor to do this? Contemplating doing mine:/
@TEDDAV649 ай бұрын
Yes, cause it is way too much of a pain to do it in truck.
@ghj15029 ай бұрын
@@TEDDAV64 you can do it with engine in truck, just hoist the engine up a bit, takes less time but if you are fat then its not doable sorry

@@TEDDAV64 btw with fresh bearings, M328 will burst oil filters :D

I had this same engine rebuilt. When I got it back, at idle zero oil pressure but when I rev the engine or drive the oil pressure goes to normal. What would cause this or suggestions on how to fix? The shop that did the TOTAL rebuild said they don't know and this is not included in a rebuild. I didn't have this problem before I dropped it off.
@TEDDAV642 жыл бұрын
To be honest it sound like they put the wrong size bearings in engine. The clearances are too big for what they call for. I have made this mistake before it causes no oil pressure at idle but you get some as engine RPM increases. My suggestion is to put a actual manual oil pressure gauge on it and see what oil pressure really if the oil pressure drops below like 8 psi lets say don't remember the actual number but the idiot gauge will read 0. Ford uses idiot gauges that not accurate at all. It is possible the idiot gauge sensor is screwing up and can cause this issue as well but it be better to check and know the actual oil pressure and check it with the engine up to temperature. Best of luck to you.
