Thank you for sharing your knowledge and tips , your one of yhe only builders who post on KZbin who actually calls the trans by the correct name , other builders with 40 years experience mis identify the ford 4r70e for a 4r70w. I know they are real similar, but hey , if you identify as a master builder , you could at least identify the units correctly. Lol But your videos have given me enough guidance and courage to build my own 4r70e transmission. So thanks man.

Thank you for posting this video. My 2009 F150 is free revving when it shifts into third. I pulled the pan and found a ton of metal shavings on the magnet, but no clutch material settled on the bottom. The fluid was filthy though (not my fault, I bought it this way). I bet those shavings were once the splines on the third gear drum. Watching this video saved me from wasting time and money trying to change shift solenoids to get it working. I think I'll just pull the transmission and take it to a friend who is a retired transmission builder and let him handle it.

Hey there, working on one of these and have a question. I had the valve body out (trans still on the the truck) for another repair and that 2/3 accumulator retainer and spring popped out. Trying to get it back in place and having trouble getting the retainer to stay put so I can get the valve body back up. Any tips on that? Can I just use some pliers to pull the tabs out a bit to get it to stay in there?

Thanks for the information. Could you tell me the reason for the lack of pressure in the cooling lines on 4r75e. Only if you briefly plug the outlet to the cooler (squeeze the hose), the pressure appears for half an hour. Then the same story. The tranny sometimes overheats I think it's about the valve body bypass valve. Can you tell me whats wrong ? Thanks

may have something going on with the heat exchanger in the radiator if trans is overheating. so your not getting a quart of fluid out of the line in 20 seconds

@@GaryFerraro i replaced radiator, cooler,lines. Btw i dont have thermostat so my cooler lines are straight. Fluid wont come strictly out of tranny. Certainly it runs but flow is soooo weak. When i try to block this line with pliers, fluod collects in a line and after that it flows like it should. And the cooler is warm. It lasts for 20-30 mins, and after that it returns to weak flow. I got one quart in 5 mins. This is bad.

For 3 weeks i had no issues all of a sudden it would not shift passed 3 i replaced all the sensors in the pan, filter, fluid and TCM no change. Can someone help me please. Also after it's warmed up there is a delay once I put it into drive I have to tap the accelerator a bit for it to kick into gear and then once I drive it it only gets first and second if I slow down too much it as if it goes back into neutral.

Here's a symptom from an '09 Towncar: WIth the shifter in D, after coming to a stop a light, when attempting to take off again it gets no forward drive. Engine rpm's go up, but no forward drive leaving the traffic light with shifter in D. When the shifter is moved down to 2, the transmission does engage and drive forward. What might be the cause?

Hey, great video, experiencing a similar issue with mine. Car has a slight hissing/ticking noise in 2nd and either spins up slightly or has a hard shift when changing to 3rd. Dropped the pan and found some very fine metal shavings. Any idea if it could be the clutch pack going or something requiring a more in depth rebuild?
@GaryFerraro

could be a few things, the 2-3 accumulator in the case, the direct drum clutch pack, even seen the separator plate crack where the 2-3 accumulator top hits the plate

I have 2005 crown vic with 140k miles and it hesitates to shift from 2nd to 3rd once I slow down back to the 2nd gear and accelerate again it neutrals out. So often times I have to slow down further to first gear and accelerate again for it to change to 2nd and then 3rd with no issues. I changed the control solenoid, the TCC solenoid, and I also checked the 1-2 accumulator springs just in case and they are all fine and I still have the issue. So I'm thinking its most likely the 2-3 accumulator spring that's broken. My question is how does the 2-3 accumulator cover hold the spring if it has no retainer clip. Also, from a complete stop the car accelerates through all the gears just fine. Its also a bit slow shifting from any gear to Drive. The car is a p71 but was never used for police work as it is a detective car, so I don't think it was driven hard to the point where the transmission has to be replaced. Another thing is when I pulled down the transmission pan the fluid was still fine but there was no magnet inside the pan where it should have been.

The 2-3 accumulator cover is held in place by the valvebody, may want to check the 2-3 accumulator piston to make sure it is not debonding

@GaryFerraro
@GaryFerraro Жыл бұрын
I would think you have a problem on the 3-4 shift not the 2-3 shift if it works ok with the o/d turned off, the o/d band is probably no good. Sorry for late response

My 2004 Expedition seems to go into neutral when shifting into 3rd(?) gear around 25-30 mph. If I turn off the OD it doesn't do it, but by the time I get to 60 mph the engine rpms are way up and I obviously can't drive it that way. I pulled the valve body and the only problem I found was the 2-3 accumulator piston was broken in half and the separator plate looks like it might have some tiny hairline cracks starting where the accumulator hits it. Many of the valve body parts look new (to me... a novice) and I'm wondering if there's ever a chance that just fixing the valve body and accumulator could possibly fix this problem. I just bought this vehicle used so I don't know what's been done to it already. I'm a bit intimidated at the idea of getting into the transmission case. Anybody know the answer to that. Even the other accumulator pistons look okay, the rubber still flexible and not hard or brittle feeling. Am I wasting time/money to rebuild the valve body and replace accumulators w/o going into the transmission too?

I'm digging for the temp sensor, under the car on gravel. Now I see how, but I'm going to have to work around the shifter stuff you yanked right out. I've got a solid 300F reading coming from the sensor (or a wiring fault) after a very slight impact. Maybe I don't break it.

OH, here's the answer: Rock Auto does not list the harness for any Crown Vic, but that the hard harness was used from 1998-2008. Oreilly's shows the right part at 2006, but not for 2007 or 2008. I don't have the right part and nobody in town that's open on Sunday does either. I'm done. ZIP it up and work on it next weekend. Ebay HAS the parts! Also it's part number: F8AZ7G276BA (from the internet. I'm going to make a pic before I slap the pan back on and go fishing.

@@GaryFerraro AND after determining that I had the wrong part and was going to have to pull the pan again later when the right parts gets here (it's on order), I refilled the tranny and went to warm it up to check the level of juice. The problem went away. I'm going with "She just needed her belly scratched". It's a wonderful thing to not have high-speed electric fan all the time! But also I'll have the part in case it returns. I wiggled all the connections and put in a new filter and some fresh oil, perhaps the accident jarred something loose and I got it back together. Success!

Gary, I have a 2011 Ford E350 with 4R75E tranny that slips in D when running at 30-40 mph. When I shift to 1 or 2, it drives fine. Can I get a 4R75E from an older E150 or even F150 like 2006-2008? Or better off staying with newer one with low mileage? In another word, a 4R75E is a 4R75E right?
