Todays video is removal of the valve covers to access the camshaft and timing chains. You will need to do this if you are installing the cam phaser lock out kit and also if you are doing the timing. One word of advice if you are reading this the passenger side valve cover can be removed with great struggle this is why I highly recommend evac'ing the AC and removing the AC lines and front condsensor and it will be of great advantage much later in the future

good job good video absolutely recommend moving the wheel skirt absolutely take those dang bolts out just did this to mine and now I get to have the same friend you did trying to get it back in with the gasket still intact

Thanks for this video doing the timing and oil pump and other parts along the way (ie water pump cause I'm already in there) on an 06 F150 4x4 and don't want to remove my working not leaking ac system, this video was a great help! P.S. I went with the Melling M360HV since I have high mileage (260k) and wanted the extra 20psi just in case I have some cam cap/tower wear.

I replaced my valve Covers with the updated ones, has 7 bolts per side instead of 14, was definitely easier to work with. New one's does not have the bolts on the side near the firewall.

You saved me. That cover is not easy to pull. I’ll yank the valve cover screws, pull that battery tray and loosen up that dryer. I really don’t want to loose that gas. Your video was excellent. Hey. One thing. The wire harness how did you move that around?

I only found this video because I thought I need to pull my valve cover in order to get to my vct solenoid. Do I not need to?

How the Frig did you remove the back center valve cover bolt? Short/deep? Extention? 1/4"/3/8" extractor? I'm about ready to push it off a cliff! Thanks brother! I'm Almont 3 weeks into working on the truck. Gone from a "Crank No Start " to running like a bag of cats!. All 15 test drives ( very short one's due to either stalling or just a super rough idel) I've had camshaft positioning sensors every single time. The last test drive it thru a p0010 and the camshaft sensors again. So 1st thing I did were both sensors to no avail. Checked all fuses and relays, safety neutral switch, egnition switch, grounds, vacuum, fuel/spark, had 300 on my tac. so I knew I had signal going to the PCM etc. I'm guessing I jumped time or the phaser or VCT is shot. But I can't get that last valve cover bolt off. Going crazy! No, already there!! lol...Any feedback would be great. Thanks

This is lame, but im hoping to find a good answer here... While removing the VCT solenoid on my passenger side, the screw fell and i haven't been able to retrieve it with a magnet. What should i do next?

I have 07 expedition Have intake manifold out bc im putting new Cylinder head temperature sensor and the pigrail for it. I can see bare wires. Causing code P0119. Only code i have. Have leaky valve vober gasket on pass side. Thought id have enough wiggle room to get it out. I tried for 2hrs trying to get it out. With the harness and ac tubes and hoses i cant for the life of me get it out. I was able to inspect most of the cam lobs and lifters. They all have a little bit of play. But not alot. The timing chain feels so loose as if the guides shattered and chain just floating in there. Has 195k miles on engine. I cant believe there isnt more codes. So to do a full fix im looking at putting about $1500 in just parts. I dont think its worth it. As of now i realize its a ticking time boom. Im so let down knowing this.

that valve cover bolt right next to the accumulator is killing me. I'm doing a complete overall of the timing and have gotten everything disconnected on the drivers side. i have three bolts left on the passenger side and from what i can tell the bolt was rounded over during original install. the bolt is more like 7mm than the 8mm it should be. i cant get a bite on it. any suggestions?

Im having the same problem with 3 bolts on the drivers side. You can buy a bolt grip expansion set

I know they make a special socket that will take out stripped bolts. It has teeth on the inside when you twist it the teeth engage. I know they sell them at Canadian Tire stores here in Canada. I image they have something similar where you're too. I hope you ended up getting them off

@@jacksimi ..I also picked up an extractor set from crappy tire. I'm In Ontario and 7 of my 15 bolts were pooched. Guessing from the weather and salt. Soon as I put my 8mm on them, they were sloppy as S#/+. As of now, I can't get my last bolt out! Back center bolt. I've tried 1/4-3/8 drives with extentions and without, extractors, swivels, deep and shallow. I'm about to lose my mind man!

Papa Bear..What bolt we're you having trouble with? Drivers side back center or passenger? If Drivers side, did you remove the wheel well skirt?

@@locknload9143 Passenger side. i went in through the wheel well. wound up cutting away some of the liner and bent some of the ac piping to get at it. a nightmare job. i still have the truck and everytime i come across someone that's done this timing job it becomes a half hour conversation about how painful it was.

I havre to do that for a 08 v10... I am wondering if that passenger side valve cover gets more room if you put the jack on the body and lifting it up a bit... Your thoughts?? The AC?? I know there is a secondary transmission fluid filter that they put there just to get in the way..Apparently does almost nothing..

oh yes you can but when putting back on timing cover better make sure you put some RTV and all those corners that's actually easier

You do, I've fixed the problem awhile ago. You can't retract them through the port, covers have to be removed

Yes, I'm getting ready to do VCT's on my 2010 and it's really beyond frustrating that they didn't keep the same style valve covers as the 2004-2007 trucks.
