PTO has to be on to work the lift. No live lift on the N tractors. Only bad thing about them. Makes bush hogging harder when close to objects. The bush hog pushes the tractor until it coasts to a stop with the clutch disengaged. I think I am right about that. I dont have a 8N, but that is my understanding.

this was a dealer shop tool i worked for a very old ford tractor dealership in the 70s and it had 2 of these the shop foreman was close to retirement age and told me . the 8n, 2n and 9n tractors had brake and rear axle service problems. and the shop did use them for painting tractors. the dealership also sold tires. a service truck would take one of these and a 2 man crew would change the tires or fix a flat on site.

Regardless of if the PTO needs to be engaged or not you could always put the PTO cover on while hooking up. Better yet just shut the tractor off until the jack is installed.
@bigtrucker264 жыл бұрын
pto cover couldn't be installed due to a over-running clutch installed (device that allows pto devices to run faster than the pto output on the tractor, so it doesn't drive you into a fence when you need to stop...)

Make sure you know what you're talking about before you post info like you're an authority. The PTO is what powers the hydro pump on the Fords using the Ferguson system. The Fergies were the same until the 35's. The Ford Jubilee (NAA) used a live hydro system, and the PTO did not drive the pump, but was driven directly by the engine.

I have a chance to buy one of these but hesitate because If using this to actually Change a Tire or work on the tractor brakes etc. , wouldn't the weight shift when you remove one wheel and cause it to be very unstable? I love the mechanics and think it's an ingenius device but not convinced it is safe, especially on soft ground.
@kirk-nj63446 жыл бұрын
They actually made (optional) mud guards for use on soft ground.. I have used mine to take tires off. Never use on loader tires and hydraulic must be in good shape. Leak down with tires off could be a problem
@Brookside9756 жыл бұрын
Could you add jack stands once it was elevated?
@kirk-nj63446 жыл бұрын
have never added jack stands to mine, you could try but the frame might be in the way. You could run a chain from the end of the end of the three pt arms thru where your top link would connect once the unit is up. A friend does it all the time when painting a tractor, has left them up with no wheels on for months. You can email me at Kirk641@embarqmail.com and I can send you a photo of what I am talking about. Also see my youtube video on the ferguson 3pt jack. I would also strongly suggest you use a pto cap when using this unit.
@kirk-nj63446 жыл бұрын
See my video on the ford dearborn ferguson 3pt jack where I actually show tire removal. It is not unstable. I have never used the 3pt jack with loaded tire although I still don't see a problem. I think the key is to have the tires just about off the ground so if the weight did shift because of soft ground and loaded tires it still won't be unstable because the tire will come in contact with the ground

Be nice when patching a tube or flipping the wheels to change the rear track . These also had track systems to use in snow , be handy for putting one on .
