Ac works for a short time if climate control is on but if I turn climate control off it works for a while before it blows warm. System is fully charged and ac blows really cold when working. I just bought a complete ac repair kit but I don't want to replace everything if it's not needed.

A 2007 ford focus also has a check valve for safely removing the high pressure switch too. I checked. It is under the passenger wheel well. I found removing the headlight worked well for access.

@@awesomefish100 I am not sure. You mean a 2002 focus? I looked on Rockauto and only see one refrigerant pressure switch, but it is work looking at all the lines, sometimes they are hidden in odd places. Rockauto sometimes is missing items too.

@@keishajennings-samuels2279 ​​⁠ Yes I actually did. It was the condenser that sits in front of the radiator. It was a little bit of work, but watching some KZbin videos, I was able to do it myself. And I went ahead and exchanged another part called an expansion valve. And it actually bolts on top of the two lines that come from your AC compressor. Now mine wasn’t bad, but I heard Ford is the Taurus for this piece going bad and since I had everything apart, I went ahead and changed it. But my main problem was my condenser and I replaced the expansion valve. And my daughter’s car works perfect now. Hopefully I helped you out. One question when you’re inside your vehicle and you cut on the air condition on the coldest setting look at your compressor if you know what that is. And you’ll see a pulley spinning that pulley always spends on the bell. But you need to see if the centerpiece of the pulley is spinning. It’ll come on and off on it off. You’ll hear it click.that’s your compressor clutch compressing the Freon. If that compressor clutch is spinning like it supposed to that means your switch is fine. Your Freon is fine and it’s gonna be one of the two issues I just mentioned.

I've got a 07 Ford Focus sedan 2.0l and my AC compressor was making a little noise and I checked the pressure with the gauge that came with the Freon. It said it was low so I turned the car off and released the freon in it and then I put about 18oz in it and it was working fine. Now it is blowing hot air and when I turn the AC on at an idle it will kill the engine it's under such a load. Do you think the gauge was wrong and it's too full of Freon?

i'd say it probably is overcharged. take it to a shop with manifold gauges to have the system charged appropriately. It's generally not good for a system to be charged purely on the low side with the cans you buy at auto parts stores. The high side needs attention also, and the high side is only servicable with an automotive HVAC machine (much to the dismay of the rest of us)

i replaced this switch on my 06 mustang and the ac compressor was still cycling on and off. the low pressure side read 40 psi, i read on a forum that is should be 30 psi so i emptied it and filled it to 30. now my compressor isnt engaging at all, any ideas?

All depends the temperature outside. The hotter the temp the more psi your system will run. If it’s over 80* 40 is perfect. 30 is more like minimum zone. 55 is more like max

Very informative video specially for me as a non mechanic. I just have a question on the compressor, it is my understanding that when the aircon reached the set temperature, the compressor will be turned off. I noticed that the compressor keeps on running even if the temp is very cold. Even if I lower the temp it continues to run. Although I noticed inside the car that temp is reducing and adjusting but the compressor is still running. Is this normal for ford?

Depends on a few things. First, depends on the climate package in the car. The fancy digital ones that have a set temp and an auto mode, yeah that would happen. Although it's normal for a system to both be on a duty cycle and to always be on, depending on needs. usually, if you have 'Max AC' active, the duty cycle will be 100% (it will usually be always on, or on more than it cycles off). Regular AC or Defrost modes will cycle the compressor in and out. Also, with Max AC active, it will force the high speed cooling fan on. Also note, the more frequent cycles, where it's off more than it's on, is often a sign of low (or potentially high) refrigerant pressure. have the high and low pressures verified in that case. Pro tip, if you're in slow traffic and the engine seems to be warming up in the older focus models, Turn on your AC button and then your Recirc button (this enables Max AC in older model Focus) and just have the fan speed dialed back. This forces both cooling fans on, which helps to regulate coolant temp. Just keep in mind, if you need more than about half throttle to disable the Max AC mode in cars with classical mechanical AC Compressors, as they do draw a lot of engine power, which will heat the coolant up more.

There is an AC condenser fan that may have gone out. This happened on my truck and in addition to a/c it was also a supplementary fan for the motor. That may or may not be the case for you but if it is, you'll want to get this resolved before sitting through a long drive through on a hot summer day.

I cannot believe how incomplete this video is. Every AC system, whether it’s on a house, or car, or an industrial building that uses liquid refrigerant as a coolant has two pressure switches. It has a low pressure cut out switch, and a high pressure cut out switch. the switches are in series. So both of those need to be checked if you have a sufficient refrigerant charge in the system.

Not all automotive applications use 2, infact most vehicles built in the last 10 years only use a single 3 or 4 wire switch on the high side.

If the switch is bad, it acts as a fail safe for the compressor. The compressor will stop engaging if the pressure switch reads/fails to read that damage could occur.

If you system is charged to the right pressures, and you suspect the switch is bad, check the continuity on the switch, it should read OL if the switch is bad.

Another armature, doesn't know how to even explain it. If the AC refrigerant is low, the low pressure switch doesn't register enough to make contact and this is time to bypass the watch contact with a small wire to allow the compressor to activate and this will allow you to add the appropriate amount of Freon to the system. Pressure switches do wear out, but it is more common that the Freon is low so you need to check both issues at the same time.
