Hey, been rebuilding a 4l80e and watching your performance build series while doing it and wanted to say thanks for the direction, has helped me out tremendously!

Good work i got a new gear box and it was a 4r75 but it was missing the wavey plate on the intermediate clutch i personally like the aluminum apply piston better cause it has exhaust port in the apply piston to keep it cool the bonded piston is weak.

Thanks, Zac! Good info re the aluminum vs bonded steel/rubber pistons on those.

Do the other bushings have to be installed a certain direction like the pump? Asking for a friend who pulled them without paying attention
@nickstransmissions3 ай бұрын
Hi Austin, not that I can recall; only the pump body bushing is directional (ill edit this post if i find out differently). Please forward the video series to your friend if you havent already. Thank you for watching.

I needed to do a case swap on one of those back in the 80s. The rear of the case was worn where the sealing rings on the output shaft cut grooves in the case, so I did a case swap. I learned later that a tool and driver was available to repair this area much like when the governor on a 350 or 700R4 wore out the bore in the case. After boring out the case, you would drive in a sleeve to repair the bore. I didn't do enough of the AODs to warrant buying the tool. I'm guessing that if they made a tool for this that it must have been a problem for that particular transmission.

Hey Peter, thanks for making me aware of a "case saver" repair kit for those, wasnt sure if anything existed for them or not.

Nick, thanks for responding about the air test plate...i have a question for you...i was air checking my trans and applied air to wrong hole...i had the pump and stator like you did in the test you showed...when i applied to the wring hole the intermediate blew out...cut the seal...my new seal i had to get was a thin lip and the org and the one in my trans kit from oregon trans was a fat lip....is there any reason to not use the thin lip ?
@nickstransmissions4 ай бұрын
Hey man, I'd use the thicker, fatter lip for better sealing. Thank you for watching!

@nickstransmissions2 ай бұрын
Hi Jahn, are you looking to have it rebuilt?
@jahnmourad77622 ай бұрын
@nickstransmissions I want to repair it myself. what could be broken?
@nickstransmissions2 ай бұрын
Gotcha...My guess is forward clutch failure....Once you have the transmission apart, remove the overdrive servo from the piston and reinsert it into the bore, checking for side-to-side play...If you have a lot of play in that pin, the OD servo bore is worn and needs to be reamed and sleeved. Or you can also replace the case. I mention this because forward clutch failure is sometimes caused by excessive the OD servo pin bore wear and OD band failure. All this assumes the problem is your forward clutch and not something else - you won't know until you get it apart and have a chance to inspect everything.
