Chris Werner I just rebuilt my 200th transmission last month. I've been doing it for almost 3 years now. They are a snap and my shop is about to move to a 3 bay road front Shop. You can learn everything you need to in order to get started thanks to Mr. Williams.

My dad has rebuilt Motors for 26 years and I have a lot of technical skills and mechanic knowledge. I also have the capital to get started unlike alot of other people who want to rebuild transmissions.

This is so easy to flow. I have a 2001 F150 with a 4r70w transmission. I do all my own work and want to become more familiar with my truck. These videos are very useful.

That Squeeze-O-Matic is genius, and these lessons are--as always--of such a high quality as to put tertiary-level training courses to shame: I'm yet to start the tear-down on my aging 4L60E, but when I do I'll definitely have your lesson package close at hand. Thank you, sir, for sharing your expertise and being so encouraging of mechanics of every skill level.

I want to thank you sincerely for going step by step, bolt by bolt, for troubleshooting and ultimately rebuilding and updating this great transmission. When the transmission shifts in the '97 F-150 I now have, the sound reminds me of the trans I had in my '72 Mustang with two 4 barrel carbs and 600hp. I installed a shift kit in the FMX and it never let me down. Ford did a fantastic job when they made the original FMX, and later, turning into the 4R70W.

Thank you a ton for these video's! I have a super charger being built for my 99 Mustang and am having a 2-3-2-3 shift at wide open throttle, I really can't find anyone that can give me any transmission advice so after watching half of this video and knowing that I have something this thorough waiting for me, I'm going to clean out my garage this weekend so I can start tearing the transmission apart and rebuild it. I was getting worried but this put me at ease. Thank you!

Instead of making the squeeze-o-matic, I bought a universal transmission clutch drum spring compressor tool(T-0158-HD) off ebay for $60. It worked a treat. Thanks for all your help Jimmy.

Hey man. I tried to rebuild my transmission the other day and failed and it's really bothered me and I thought I would just give it up and have to find someone else to do it for me. But in the first two minutes you let me know that I could and will rebuild my transmission. Thank you man so much.

I LOVE that field expedient wooden press! I've got presses aplenty but that's slick as it could be and much faster than using a hydraulic press. The wood won't damage metal parts which is a bonus.

In stead of the spring o matic, wouldnt 2 decent sized c-clamps work just as well to take the tension off of the snap ring?

I'm having a hard time finding a rebuild manual for a 4R75E but can find a manual for the 4R70W no problem I know there are a few differences as pointed out in your video buy would the manual work for be building and for specs or are they to different?
@toddmiller53222 жыл бұрын
I'd just use a couple large C-clamps instead of the foot press or squeeze o matic. Course I'm used to getting around these scenarios. Took apart and reassembled an entire 919cc Honda engine once without any of the specialty tools and I even used a metal park bench and a scissor jack to press a bearing during a repair in a gas station parking lot lol.

Hi James, , I have a 2004 Crown Vic police interceptor with a 4R70W. It has 153200 miles. It shifts fine and has only one problem. When the engine and trans are hot there is a 3-4 second engagement delay when shifting into drive from neutral or reverse. When it finally shifts into drive (after the delay), it engages fine with no slipping. So I think the forward clutch is OK. Once in drive, it shifts fine through all gears. There is never any delay shifting into reverse. When the engine and trans are cold, there is no delay. It seems like something is sticking in the valve body when it is hot. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I can't find part 1 lesson 2 as it says it was removed! The years seem confused. I have a 2004 5.4 and the serial number says it is a 4r75w. They say it is only on 2003 and before. Check their store and it says parts can be purchased for a 4r75w 2004 and up. Parts also seem confusing as to what to buy!

I noticed that you said the 4r70w was installed on trucks and vans from 1993-1995. I may have misunderstood but I have a 1999 5.4 f150 lariat with a 4x4 4r70w.

A great series that helps me tremendously and obviously great resource! I just followed this series to rebuild the 4r75 in my 2011 Lincoln Town Car. I'm making a video about my experience following his instructions. Believe me, there's some things that he thinks you should do in this video that you absolutely don't need to do and there's some things you definitely will stop your rebuild over and worry about if you listen to what he says, because he's just plain wrong. So if you'll subscribe to my channel and hit the little bell icon So you get notified in the next couple weeks when my video comes out, I'll be able to tell you what those things are. I will go over all the little tips and tricks that will help you in addition to this person's amazing video series and I'll cover some things that he doesn't cover. I can't go over it here in the comments or my comment would be 3000 words long instead of just watching my 5 minute video

Can anyone lend a hand started my disassembly of my 4r70w and laying in the bottom of the pan was a small white plastic piece. No idea where it came from. Looks like a white plastic half of a barbell about the size of a thimble?
@nomoniker791710 ай бұрын
Came from the factory, supposedly from when theyre building the cars, its needed for the install of the transmission dipstick. It gets pushed into the transmission pan & just stays there until one day the pan is removed. You dont need it.

The 700 is Newton-Meters. roughly 515 foot pounds input shaft torque. stop saying 700 foot pounds. Ford and GM uses this measurement method in their model nomenclature. If a bone stock OEM automatic overdrive transmission was rated at and could withstand regularily used 700 foot pounds of torque everyone at the drag strip would be running one in every car slower than a 9.50 adapted by whatever means necessary and auto salvage yards couldn't have one in stock more than 5 minutes.
