Too bad that so many people who get into cool vehicles like you, unfortunately find out the hard way that cheap means cheap. The fact that he was a friend of your dads really makes it sting more since you relied on some trust being a factor and it didn't pan out. The good news is that in the big picture, that wasn't a lot of money since good bodywork costs a lot of $$$$$$$ these days and you learned a valuable lesson. My advice would be to learn to do the bodywork yourself if you have a place to do it. Be patient and watch a lot of KZbin videos. I am currently working on 2 Bronco's myself, a 78 and a 79. Putting the work in yourself will sometimes be frustrating ( as you've already found out ) but the reward when completed feels like nothing else. I've been helping my 30 year old daughter refurbish her 1976 F250 and she's becoming very accomplished and knows more about vehicles than most guys her age. Good luck !!!

Yah I was on the lookout to not get screwed over being a woman in the auto world and not knowing what I’m doing, but I wasn’t expecting it from a family friend. That’s really cool your daughter is restoring a truck also! And thanks for the encouragement, I’m trying to look at it as a blessing in disguise. I wouldn’t have done anything with the body if it wasn’t for him and now I’ll (eventually) have the color that I really want.

Damn Lauren this sucks so much. I'm sorry. I know it hurts and your feeling discouraged. Yeah, the self-taping screws through the wheel well are full-on BS and $400 just to hang one door.... Did you get your old door back and do you still have your wood grain trim off the door panel? That stuff is ultra-rare and no one is making them. Well looks like your going to be doing bodywork yourself. Chin up you can do this. Its just time and energy :) Good camera work. It's coming along. Something I saw and I do it a lot as well is not looking at the camera and looking at the screen. I get sucked into this often. To help out you can go buy a small white sticker or some white-out and place it right around the camera lens on the phone so it draws your eye's attention and is a visual reminder to look there. Keep up the strong work and can't wait to see the next one.

Thats a great idea- thank you. Your video advise has been so helpful! And nope he kept the doors, including the metal info tag on the drivers door. After I said no to paying him another $400 he straight up hung up on me. At this point I was afraid I wouldn't even get the truck back, it was at his buddies shop and I didn't know how to get there. He gave me the address finally and when I got there the keys were in the truck and he was no where to be found. Really scummy.

@@broncobabeadventures4316 That is legitimately theft and borders on the line of grand theft auto because he is keeping a tag that has the vin. Now he is going to expect you to bend as you did before with payments. I know its a challenging situation but your going to need to stand hard on this one of he is just going to walk away with your stuff. I'm not saying going go in yelling but use tact. Don't just call, text, or email but go to his place and let him you want your door and other parts if any back. You showing up is taking the aggressive stance and show your not passive or to be push to a no. If they refuse they inform them nicely that you will be forced to report this as grand auto theft to the attorneys because they are actively stealing your vin number. If they continue to say no then they have no care or regard for you or your property and they should be held accountable. Call the police and that they stole your Items and highlight that your vehicle Vin is one of them. The local law enforcement will come out and make a case number and talk to them about their legal choice of action. Please please don't let people like this push you around. It's an adult bully situation. Don't be a victom.
@broncobabeadventures43163 жыл бұрын
I didn’t realize him having that tag was a big deal. I mean it knew it sucked but didn’t know to that extent. It’s tough because this all went down a week before a moved across the country, and I drove the bronco to move myself so that really compounded the stress of it all. I’m now 900 miles away from him, and this all went down in October. I just called him but his number has been disconnected 😕. I emailed, I guess I’ll have to figure something out if he doesn’t get back to me.

@rodshuffy40453 жыл бұрын
Not sure about getting hosed, would need to know what you paid. Those screws on rear wheel humps are there to hold the wheel inner wheel house while the structural epoxy sets up. So it looks like you got new wheel houses too, along with the quarters. Its not glue holding things on its hopefully panel epoxy and a much better way to attach a quarter and wheel house. No welding so no warping. Plus epoxy prevents rusting in the future. I am doing the quarters and wheel houses now on my 78 and its a JOB and a half. The hardest part is the seam just behind the door where the quarter meets the roof section. The old quarter is tack welded up under the b-pillar and is very hard to access. A good body shop should know what is involved prior to the work though and labor cost would be approximately $1000-$2000 per side to install for quarters only. Add another $200 or $300 per side for labor on the wheel houses. Labor rates are location driven so the higher number is for high cost urban areas. The lower range is for more rural areas with less overhead. Another issue is quarter panel quality. These things are made in Taiwan or China and typically come with a little damage and do not fit very good. The body guy has to spend a lot of time making them fit somewhat good. So, my thoughts are if you paid less than $3500 for both sides, you did not get hosed. If you paid between $3500 and $4000 for both sides you did ok. If you paid more than $4500 and you live in a high labor area you did ok. If you paid more than $5000 you got hosed. Thanks for documenting your progress, its very interesting.

The new door you have is an after market door and there are fit problem with them. To get them to work, there has to be lots of body work to make them look good. If he is a friend of your dad's, he really should step in and take control of the situation for you. The guy that has your doors and trim, needs to give them back. Go back with another person to support you, or even the police if they give you a hard time and get your property back. 2:30 min into glad you left that person. The screws is a good ideal but poorly executed, I would get a cut off wheel if you haven't already, grind them off flush, pull the rubber mat back of course first, and for extra measure I am am doing the same method cause I don't have spot welder(preferred method of attaching panels), but put I do have Mig welder, spot weld on top each of those screws that u cut off keep them from backing out. if still need gas door , I Have spare gas door, i can send you if want it? , yep doing my quarter panel this week same side, my door post was crunched, no welding till i get MY "MARTI" vin decal. most of those runs get some wet dry sandpaper from auto parts store sand them out till there smooth. it be fine if aint going paint soon get some flat clear enamel paint over to seal primer, primer absorbs moisture, prevent further rust damage. Looks good.

Sorry to hear you were cheated on that bad body work, And you wont see receipt adding up to what he charged for materials, Even if he used the best panel bond, filler and sand paper it would not add up to that, My suggestion for the body work is sand it down and see how he secured those panels and go from there. If it was me I'd buy a cheep flux core welder and a grinder, and the wheel wells I'd remove one screw and weld the hole closed then the next screw and so on until all the holes are filled. I don't know if you can buy a new speedometer sensor but I do know the factory one goes on the speedometer cable under the dash When I installed cruse control on one of my truck years back I replaced the whole speedometer cable with one for cruse control ,
@broncobabeadventures43163 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the advise, I was planning on welding like you said. I've had mixed input as to wether I should sand it down and see if I need to fix it or just guide coat and block it. The rational with that is I could spend thousands more to fix whats under there and thats a thread I don't want to pull on. Its hard to know how far to take the restoration sometimes. And as to the speed sensor, this truck has a clip in spedocable and the ones that go to the cruise control and screw in so it wouldn't work.
@Greatday683 жыл бұрын
@@broncobabeadventures4316 I 'd start with blocking it and seeing how bad it is first, Filler and sand paper is cheap, Just buy quality filler, and a quality dust mask and eye protection, That dust gets everywhere. Doing it your self is much cheaper then paying someone.

@@broncobabeadventures4316 It doesn't appear to me that your bodyman replaced the quarter panels.. maybe he did wheel house patches over the wheels but did not replace the entire quarter panel from what I see. I replaced both the doors on mine using from a F-150 pickup that were rust free. But to put those screws into inside of back is an absolute fail. The runs in the primer are ridiculous as well..
