Happy Monday everyone and thank you for being so patient! We’ve been super excited to drive this one since Mazda first announced it last year and it’s a welcome upgrade over the CX-30 and CX-5 in space, capability, design, and comfort. We’re very excited to see the electrified option Mazda has planned in the near future. We also wanted to clarify, this vehicle technically shares the newer platform with the current Mazda3 and CX-30, not the older CX-5 platform. We imagine a lot of people may mistake it for a CX-5 platform but it’s the reason why the rear suspension is a non-independent torsion beam, instead of the multi-link setup in the CX-5.

Yesterday, I happened to see my first one on the road and was quite impressed by what I saw in person. It definitely turned my head and carried quite a presence. It was a dark gray with dark wheels. While Mazdas usually all look alike, I didn’t know what it was until I saw the Mazda emblem on the grill. Definitely a top vehicle in this class. Excluding luxury brands, the Hyundai Tucson and this CX-50 are the only vehicles that stand out. The interior of this CX-50 has some pretty leather, but otherwise looks dated. @@MonicaHolly143 Hi Monica, I personally think these are the two reasons why I want a digital gauge. 1. Abundance of info. The digital display is more customizable than analog, and it can display every piece of info you need. It is the place where we look the most when driving beside the road ahead. This is like an Apple watch VS a traditional Rolex watch, digital can offer more than just time, and it can be customized. 2. Value comparison. This seems to be a common practice now, with dealerships knowing they can gouge buyers to make up for lost business during pandemic. They can suck it....I'm going to keep my vehicle for 2-3 years longer in response to dealerships doing this. By then, I wouldn't be surprised if we go into a recession, at which point, not only do I not expect to pay markup, but the dealerships will be offering big discounts due to any potential lack of demand if this recession happens.

A very good design to a great design. I had a Mazda 626 LX (1988) that I got in August of '88. My model had a 133 cubic inch 4 in line. The horsepower was a measly 110 at 130 foot pound torque. Got that car at a top speed of 94 m.p.h. trying to catch a hot Porsche one day...that's the last of my "speed chasing" which was few in my years of driving. The one thing that Mazda promote back then for a few years was their "Twin Trapezoidal Links", which today are (?) multi-link suspension in the rear of cars. One noticeable thing on the engine sound...it sounds great. To me, 6 speeds gets the job done fine over the 7, 8, and 9 speed models. Less gears mean less break down in the transmission (?). I like the design of this car! Consumer Reports rate Mazda make cars literally on top of reliability. Maybe...this car will replace my nearly 18 year old Subaru Forester. At least one thing...they had a winning car at LeMans in '88.

Also, the lack of air vents up front might be challenging to cool the vehicle in Florida heat. The pano roof is a bummer too for Florida. It just heats up the car. I think that when you review vehicles you should also currently take into account any market adjustments and dealer mark-ups/add-ons that will make up the final pricing. Telling people the MSRP at this moment in time is just adding confusion to the mix and also it helps dealerships hide these additional hidden charges.. I think that your loyal followers would like to know the real world price at your location, this would help people decide if they can get it or not. For instance I went down to my local dealership (Mesquite Mazda in TX) after watching this video and the top of the range CX-50 was advertised at an MSRP of $41K but when I tried to buy it, they tried to tell me it was $53k with dealer markups and fees. That sandy beachy road. Im sure the CX5 will do just fine with it. I think it need to go a hilly-sandy-a little bit of floody road but not muddy dead deep back yard or cross river road. Thats what I want to see. Also, we need a price range so we can compare them from other vehicles and do the checklist. This way we can decide which is better for the pocket and needs. However, your review is awesome and informative. Now, people will think twice whether they will get a CX5 or 50. The look of this new vehicle is eye catching and the upholstery they are my fav.

I was in Santa Barbara same time near hotel California and CX-50s were popping up in my wifi list but I couldn't spot one, looked around for 20 minutes lol!

What's up with the powertrains options? No eight speed transmission? Seems like Mazda is a bit behind the times in that regard. Otherwise, it appears to be a solid offering from Mazda. Always been a fan of their exterior and interior designs.

I agree. My guess is that it has to do with it being built on the same platform as the CX-30 (and Mazda3), which was built to accommodate the 6 speed transmission. The upcoming CX-60 is built on their new RWD platform and will utilize the new 8 speed transmission.

That’s coming on the new crossovers like CX-70 and CX-90

The Mazda 6-speed automatic transmission is very reliable, so there's no reason to replace it. On the other hand, Toyota's 8-speed automatic, about 2 years ago, proved to not be reliable when a million 8-speed auto transmissions failed, resulting in a class action lawsuit.

@@SokemRokemRobot exactly and thank you for stating those facts. I’ve owned 5 Mazdas and never had transmission issues. I currently have a 2016 Mazda 3 and a 2021 Mazda CX-5.

Mentioning the color when explaining about the exterior of the vehicle would have been extremely helpful.

I like the refreshed exterior, it looks very sharp. I definitely prefer the CX-50’s looks over the Cx-5. One thing tho-maybe I live in a bubble but are people clamoring for plastic cladding?

Apparently. Although I don’t understand why!

It's not refreshed, it's new.

Better than all the exposed paint while off roading mazda says

Refreshed. It’s a brand new Mazda model

@@2004cyrus This reply I guess is to Mazda and not you 😊. These vehicles will never go off road. No more than the CX 30 which is also covered in cladding. Whatever the reason for the cladding, “off-roading” isn’t it. 😊

So... which end does one put snow chains on? It has a magnetic rear disconnect. Something to ponder.

There's lots of v6 and 3rd row options available at $42 k price point . Mazda needs to price their trims accordingly
