In this video Jay Robarge of Broader Performance will show whether or not the kickdown linkage must be hooked up in order to prevent a Ford C6 transmission from being burnt up. This demonstration will involve a close look at the hydraulic circuit as well as an actual dyno demonstration.

Like others on here I have run C4 and C6 with no kick down and with no issues I just manually downshifted the trans when I wanted to. Thanks for clearing that up on your channel.

I have run C4s and C6s without connecting the down shift lever and never had a problem. It just does not down shift using the accelerator.

Thanks brother! I’ve ran C6s many miles with the kick down unhooked. Never was a problem in thousands of miles. The myth probably came because of the AOD which many believe is a C6 with overdrive.

that was very informative. Can you do a video on how C6 vacuum modulator effects pressures and shift points? I am guessing you would have to include governor function, but I am not sure on that. Thanks!

I'm also doubt that not having the kick down cable on the Turbo Hydramatic 250 & 350 would burn them up.

Great video....I have a holley 4150 4776C that does not have the same throttle shaft as the 4160 for my C6 kickdown lever....Is there a way I can still hook up OEM kickdown lever with my 4160 4776C 600cfm D.P. thanks

Been running my C6 on my 79 Bronco with no kickdown for over a year. Put a 2" spacer on the intake for velocity and then the kick down wouldnt reach. Has caused absolutely no issues. The governor controls the downshifts and upshifts quite well. Just maybe lose the ability to manually control it more precisely.

I was in the same situation, I got a generic lockdown cable and it works great. If you ever want to hook it up again.
