Their 500hp 1.4L and 600hp 1.7L turbo BDA motors were something to drool over. When fitted by Zakspeed into something vaguely resembling a Capri (only the roof and the windscreen were exchangeable with a standard road-going Capri) they won 26 out of 34 races in the DRM against Porsche 935s and BMW M1 Procars. The year before they actually won every race in the 2L (including the 1.4 turbo factor) classes but Porsche pulled a dirty on them and got them disqualified over an alleged rear spoiler infringement at the end of the season.

I've owned a few Capri's in the past and plan on getting another one some day. Right now I content myself with working on my friends Capri Mk I V6. It's had a complete mechanical make over due to sitting un-driven for 28 years! It now runs and drives, it only needs some misc. minor items to be finished. Oh, and the complete interior installed but that's not hard and we do have all of the parts.

Much as I liked the original Sierra and Escort Cosworth's back in the day, reliable they most certainly weren't. Hands up I'm coming from a 350+hp 200,000+ mile no problem what-so-ever Lexus background, but if you think blowing a sub 200hp engine after 20,000 (Boss's Car) is reliable, then fair enough. For me, that's unacceptable! But in the 80/90's I experienced a few standard blown Cossie engines which was/is enough to deter me, so did this chap it would seem - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioPXhJ5uqq99a8k Not sure of the likes of Millington or Smith & Jones engines are any better.

That Cosworth V6 was based on the 3.1-liter Essex V6 available on Mark I Capris sold in certain markets except the U.S. and Canada, where only the 2.6 and later 2.8-liter Cologne V6 were available. Standard engines were the 1.6-liter Kent OHV four, followed by the 2.0-liter OHC Lima four. For the later Capri II, the 2.3-liter OHC Lima four and 2.8 Cologne V6 were available on U.S. and Canadian versions.

These original RS racers got Bilstein shocks, Ferodo brakes, and the front cross member got re-drilled to give the car some negative camber. Then the race engineers got to work on geometry and set up.. The RS smashed everything in its class, and even many of the group 4 racers in the class above. Bear in mind it only weighs about 950kgs..

@Robbie Robot Probably is. Leaf springs aren't that bad. It's the axle moving laterally in relation to the body during hard cornering which gives Capris a poor reputation. Easily solved with an appropriate location kit 👍
@feydespiel. Жыл бұрын
@MajorT0m if you read about how Ralph Broad...( broadspeed).. developed the suspension on these cars you would be amazed..regs demanded that leaf springs must be maintained..so he built a fully adjustable suspension set up..and had PLASTIC leaf springs fitted in the original position..they didn't do a thing but it satisfied the homologation requirements .they never knew they were plastic!..Ralph was a genius...

What astounds me is they use a block from one of the laziest V6's and create a V6 that produces crazy power even by today's standards. I had a MK1 Capri Essex V6 years ago and kept modifying it to get more power.
