"EV emissions realities start with physics. To match the energy stored in one pound of oil requires 15 pounds of lithium battery, which in turn entails digging up about 7,000 pounds of rock and dirt to get the minerals needed-lithium, graphite, copper, nickel, aluminum, zinc, neodymium, manganese, and so on. Thus, fabricating a typical, single half-ton EV battery requires mining and processing about 250 tons of materials. (These figures hold roughly true for all lithium chemistries.) For the carbon-counters tracking such things, the global mining and minerals sector uses 40 percent of all industrial energy-dominated by oil, coal, and natural gas-and that’s before we take into consideration the massive expansion that would be required to supply all the battery factories planned for widespread EV adoption." - Mark P. Mills

Manufacturings’ only hope, regardless of industry, is to abandon the 100+ yo sequential Model T-style assembly lines & adopt Tesla’s “Unboxed” innovation. Any new lines not doing so spell disaster for their companies. Also, as Tesla proved in Fresno, converted old school plants become disfunctional nightmares. So unless legacies scrape their properties to the ground & go greenfield, they’re DONE. So, can unboxed be licensed? Thoughts?

It would be quite a challenge to change the culture and mindset from buying thr cheapest from suppliers to doing everything in house.

Lol this dude says everything Elon says. Too bad Ford cars suck, would love to buy one of they didn't only last around 100k miles.

My dude, Ford's are literally some of the most reliable cars out there. Some of the only cars from the 90s you still see driving around are Ford's. They have some of the highest owner loyalty, and have multiple models on most reliable car lists. So they're clearly doing something right. They have some iffy models here and there, but they're pretty solid overall.

In fact, we've owned just about everything, our Ford's have been up there with our Toyotas in terms of longevity. Our extended family has owned 30+ ford's and they've all been great aside from two, which were both from the 80s, arguably Ford's worst decade for reliability.

This is how good Chinese 🇨🇳 semiconductor industry is: 10,000 Chinese chip developers closed their companies in 2021 to 2022.
@ensteffo Жыл бұрын
In the same period the same thing happened to large parts of the Chinese auto industry. Both the Chinese auto and chip industry saw massive growth in the period so the consolidation in to fewer companies seem to be a common trend in the most successful industries.

Those semiconductor companies that went bankrupt were scammers who got state subsidies. This is just like when China started to engage in the solar energy industry, and a bunch of scam companies closed down. In the end, China became the absolute hegemon in the solar energy field

Intriguing. Farley seems to have capitulated to mimicking, with exact precision, Tesla's strategy. A few years late, but maybe Ford can catch up.
@toddw3nzel639 Жыл бұрын
Maybe is the key word. Tesla can build up and maintain a high work ethic culture. Ford has to cut down and instill and high work ethic culture. (Much harder to cut down and instill a new culture. I say that as someone who has first hand knowledge of it.)
