Those Ford tractors were tough, I have worked most of these tractors and owned the 5000 and 6000 series models during my farming day's.

When I was a kid I just loved hunting birds after the old corn pickers went through, there always seemed to be corn in the ground and birds every where,, pure heaven for a young boy and his dog

Enjoyed the video! Those ford mounted pickers were popular in my area. Appreciated seeing different views of the picker since I am working on a 1/64 model of a 602 on a 901

I worked at a Ford tractor dealership in the mid 1970's, and the head mechanic there said the 6000's were way ahead of their time.

if not for bad transmissions and wrist pins Ford would have sold a ton of them and might still be in the farm equipment business today
@marknicholson27185 жыл бұрын
The select-o-speed was ahead of its time. But the engineer that designed it told ford it wasn't ready to manufacture yet. He went on vacation and ford took it and started to manufacture it. When the engineer came back he was so mad he quit and went to John deere. And perfected it for their tractors. As i remember it.

We had 2 M Farmall’s with Mounted pickers. That 4200 would be like driving a Cadillac compared to them!

The thing about IH pickers in the 40's and 50's is that they were designed with a maximum yield per acre concept. The first one we had could handle about 60 bushels an acre, but when our yields got better, it kept plugging up and dumping ears off the sides of the rollers because it couldn't keep up. We got a more modern one, and a tractor to mount it on with a TA transmission so we could slow down. It worked good until our yields started being over 100 bushel an acre, then it couldn't keep up either. Modern field shelling combines can handle just about anything standing up and hardly leave a cernal in the field.

Thanks. Nice video. Would have enjoyed running those machines. Too bad that we allowed them to run the small farmer out .

I am drooling!! And watching for the fifth time. I am dying to find a 4/5200 and a 602 picker. Was there ever a 602 with a sheller?
@ford9000puller7 жыл бұрын
Boehm Farm from what I’ve learned Ford didn’t make the 2 row shellers once they switched to blue but the first of the 602 pickers were red and they had the sheller. The first 2 row pickers were the 16-66 model that came out in 55. They changed to the 602 in 61 when the 6000 came out. They changed the mounting for the rear units then. There are some shellers out there that are the 602 style. Most are the old style. Our sheller is an old style mount with the new 602 style heads. The old style can be made to fit on the later. I’m getting ready to do that for a buddy of mine. I’m putting a picker on a 5200 for him and mounting a sheller on it.

Very impressive collection! Is ford is/was popular in ur area? Is the 611 gona be running next year??
@ford9000puller7 жыл бұрын
There is quite a bit of Ford stuff around central Missouri. Several good dealers were around in the good old days including the one my dad worked at for 22 years here in California. Long gone now. Now it’s an hour drive to the closest blue dealer. Might plant a acre or two of oats to try out the 611. Don’t know if it will be painted but hopefully ready for a test run.
