Best looking Cortina by some margin imo. A mate of mine has a 2 litre GXL in the early 90's and while it had decent performance it roll a hell of lot when cornering enthusiastically. It I bought one of these I'd have to fit some aftermarket dampers.

My first car back in 1985 was a 1974 Mk3 1.6 base. £160 from the auctions, running like a pig. Lifting the bonnet in the dark revealed an awesome fireworks display; new plug leads cured both issues. Regret selling it 2 months later (for £265) but it had done its job and the boot floor rot had already set in. It was a great pre-university summer holiday car and I did about 4,000 miles in it at an average of 29mpg.

In Australia the mark three Cortina was known as TC an TD Cortina, the TC had the pressed aluminium grill , the TD had the plastic grill, when these Cortinas had what was known as 250 cubic inch 6 cylinder engines from the Falcon coupled to the 4 speed top loader gearbox, they could sit on 90 miles per hour all day long on the highway

Still such a great looking car! Looks a lot sportier than it is. Get a good condition 2-door version of this, add a Harris engine, modern sporty tuned suspension and brake kits and maybe some strut braces to increase rigidity and you might have something really special! 😁 I personally prefer the more curvaceous dash of the earlier versions to this squared off later one. Oh and the dual circular or quad headlights are so much nicer looking than those awful (and far more dated IMO) rectangular ones 😬

I am sure that dashboard is wrong, it has the dash from when they switched to the OHC engine, and this car has a crossflow.

This is a South African-spec car, hence some differences :)

It was the hardening process that was bad, trust me I worked in Dagenham engine plant, production engineer on the OHC engine.

Scary stuff. The MK3 looks great but has a habit of rusting er, everywhere! Also, the following components may fail: all of them! Best be handy with the spanners!

Basically, the whole thing is liable to rust 😃

If it sounds solid it’s filler. If it pings it’s metal.

I don't think bright red suits it, anyhow I wonder why door seals are made but not windscreen rubbers?

It was my first car, provided me with some of my happiest memories with mates and girlfriends so what’s with the Cortina, to some of us quite a bit actually.
