This was very helpful. Once I had the T60 life got a lot better. Went with the SKF bearing and didn't waste time with cheaper units. The OEM left rear bearing failed at 110K. Started off as a gentle growl and only got louder. This fixed it.

That H.F T60 torx bit worked great. This is the most important tool that you have to modify. Also, the small mirror is a must, I bought the one with l.e.d lights at Harbor Freight. I have a Lincoln MKX and I replaced both rear hubs. No more grinding noise. You are a god send. Thanks ...Canada

Hi Alex...I have a 2008 MKX. The rear bearings are easy to replace. Save $600.00 dollars on labor and do it yourself. It took 3 hours. There are a couple of You tube videos that where very helpful on this issue... Thanks guys...Canada

good job on the video. I've done both sides on my 2008 edge AWD about 2 years apart from each othere. the first time I did it like you but the second time I took off the top rubber bushing and I was able to get to the bolts all from the wheel well and probably didn't have to buy the long impact 60 t Torx. It was much easier because that's whole assembly twisted out. Once I took that bolt out it went down and towards me making it easier and giving me more room to take the bolts out. Watching your video made me feel much better about the first time I did my 2008 Ford Edge Limited Edition and the way I did it. Good Job on the explanation and video. Also I didn't have to modify my t60 to do it.

Great video. I'll be doing mine on my next day off. Like you, i looked at everything. My hubs had no play , but when wife took vehicle to get tire repair they told her they were bad. I believe them and im gonna do them myself. They want $270 for the bearings and 1.6 hours of labor at $75. I found parts on rockauto for $52 or $104 for both. i need the torx wrench and a grinder. I just found an excuse to buy more tools. Thanks for the video

Really appreciate this video - I just completed the same repair on my 08 Edge - decided on replacing both rear bearing hubs - this video saved me a lot of frustration and time - in my case had to buy the following.....32mm Deep Socket, Torque Wrench up to 250 lbs and crowbar (same as video) - since I was saving on the labor bought Motorcraft Hub bearings from Rock Auto (Rock Auto had the best price for OEM Motorcraft) - all in total cost (parts/tools).....about $300.00 - feeling of working on my own car, completing the job and a job well done....priceless! A Big......THANK YOU!!!

Just wanted to say thank you for the video. Got the tools from HF, ground the T60 down. Got it done. Recommend to all who do this, get a set of extenders when you buy the torx set. I used a few different lengths trying to get the socket driver around behind the wheel. Wife is super happy her car is now quiet. Thank you again.

Did 2007 Edge rear bearings last night. Figure about 3 hours to complete both if you have all the tools. The instructions and detail in this video are fantastic...nothing I'd add or change. A couple of facts: 1) the extended T-60 can be ordered off eBay for about $10 delivered and you cannot do this job without the ground-down version. 2) Have a 1/2" drive swivel and a variety of extensions ready. Getting the T-60 bolts out is 50% of the time. 3) Make sure that the backing plate holes line up with the holes in the hub before attempting installation of the new bearing. Installing isn't as difficult as it may look...just get one bolt stated. 4) The 'other' side takes about half as long as the first!

thanks for the video. I just did mine I removed the bottom shock bolt to get it out of the way. and used my impact socket to hit the shaft out, that way I put the pressure on the flange of the nut, I have messed up threads before. I did have to buy a 1inch 1/2 drive extension to use on the torque bit. But everything worked out nice saved a lot of time. thanks again for the video.

I have a 2010 Lincoln MKX (Basically the luxury Edge), and we just changed the passenger side rear hub. This vehicle is FWD, not AWD, and I don't remember seeing that toothed ring on mine that was blocking the Torx bolts. We just had to use a couple of extensions and a breaker bar, then those come right off, and the ABS sensor uses a smaller T60 bolt. The hard part was getting the hub and backplate separated from the rest of the vehicle. First tried bracing a piece of wood up against it and hitting it with a hammer, then we smashed the hell out of it with an impact driver and a punch attachment. Finally broke it loose by chiseling away at the edges.....lol. After that, it was easy peasy.

i just did this yesterday. did both sides on the rear of my lincoln mkx (same thing) the only useful tips i can add is first dont beat the shaft out. before trying to loosen the bolts holding on the hub use a 3 jaw gear/pulley puller to push the shaft out and there is no chance to mess up the nut or threads. also do this first and you wont have to grind the tool down it will fit after pushing the cv axle.... other than that great video.

Thank you for sharing, having changed the previous bearing following the book method and this time following your way was a piece of cake, buying the T-60 from Harbor Freight and grinding it down was a great idea. By the way this is the third time the left rear bearing was been replaced, once while under warranty by the Ford Dealer, twice by me, right side no problem.

Just got done with drivers side on my 2006 awd Edge using a Timken hub assy #HA590183. Although it wasn't easy, your suggestion for the ground down T60 made it manageable. Suggest applying inward pressure to axle shaft to gain even more clearance from tone ring. Upon reassembly try Inserting torx bolts thru holes 1st, then fit brake backer plate & hub on tightening equally while manipulating axle back & forth for clearances. Liberal use of anti-seize will make future replacement easier. Don't recommend it on caliber bolts, blue loctite would be more appropriate. Thanks for the video.

I have an skf on the drivers side and have not had any issues they are also a more reputable brand than raybestos. I jacked the rear end up this morning and I am pretty sure the right rear is making the grinding noise I will let it go for another week just to make sure. if you put the skf on compare the seal design to the Raybestos night and day difference.

A tad late on the comments, but I saw you put anti-seize on your bolts, when you should have put some medium strength thread locker instead. The bolts could vibrate off. While the battle for rust sucks, I would prefer things not falling off, or even chance it. You may have done it all the time, with zero bad results, and that's great, and hope you never get any bad results, but things are too expensive if something were to fall off going down the road.

I have a 08 ford edge SE FWD replaced the rear wheel bearings figured I'd post if it would help anyone its simpler than the AWD version take the tire off brake off rotor off the hub assembly comes off with 4 torx 60 bolts that are behind the wheel hard to get to but easy to get to if you have a ratchet with a 3" extension adapter everything was stuck together and I needed to use a mallet to get it apart but it was simpler now I have to figure out how to fix the ABS light the Traction control light that came on after putting on the new bearings...

QUESTION: I have an AWD Fusion. I replaced my rear hub bearing with a ford replacement assembly. I was having trouble finding the torque spec. Your book says INNER and OUTER. You claimed the outer was the actual hub nut to torque to 130. What is the INNER that requires 200?!?!?!?!?!? Is that referencing your torx bolts?

Has that Raybestos failed yet? I had a raybestos (right rear) and an SKF (left rear) put on 3,000 miles ago it sounds like the raybestos is dead already I also had the left rear replaced with a raybestos 2,000 miles before that and it failed after 2,000 miles. Needless to say I will not be putting raybestos wheel hubs on our edge again.

+jcook007fix Checked the hubs again this morning, took off the calipers and discs. I think both are failing the right rear is harder to turn and is making more of a grinding noise than the left rear. I will change the right rear first and see how the left rear sounds. I have also been doing some research on hubs it sounds like all the majors are made over seas now, Timken, Moog, SKF. I guess get the one with the best warranty but that will not fix the root cause which is the design flaw from Ford.
