I know this video is 2 years old but man it's perfect. Y'all turning me into a mechanic. I knew starters were pretty easy but this was like changing a tire. Besides the part where I had to maneuver the starter out. I tried 10 times n couldn't get it. Took a 5 minute break, went back out, grabbed it n pulled it right out. Thanks

Great Video! I used this video to replace the starter on my wife's Edge. Quick and easy! Y'all are lifesavers! (Note: I did not drain the coolant system. I put a pan under the car and the spillage was minimal. I undid the hose and zip tied it in a vertical position to hold it until I was ready to reconnect. I also loosened the bracket that holds the gear selector. This made installation much easier.)

I just removed the coolant hose and tied it up high to minimize coolant loss without having to drain the whole system. I was able to place a pan underneath the vehicle to catch the fluid coolant. I little messy but save time. Make sure fluids are completely cool for the option. Great video and made this very doable right where the vehicle is sitting. Awesome...!!!!!

great video. I had better success removing the battery itself. I removed the 3 bolts that held the battery tray and swiveled it up out of the way. That gave me more room to disconnect the 2 wire cables to the starter. I also marked and removed the shifter linkage bolt and the bolts holding the linkage bracket. I carefully moved it toward the firewall. Now i had easy access to the starter mounting bolts without removing the coolant hose. For me that saved time and work. Starter came right out. thanks again for video posting.

Thanks for the informative video, guys! You made this job simple! The only change I would recommend is to remove the transmission linkage so you don't have to shimmy the starter into multiple positions to remove and replace it after removing the bolts. Other than that, GREAT JOB!

It would be helpful to know the socket required to remove the transmission manual control lever nut - it's 15mm. I think your video is really good. I am about to attempt removal of the starter from my 2007 Ford Edge. I am glad you mention the tools and sizes that you are using. It seems I waste a lot of time just trying to find the right socket for the job. Thanks!

Thanks for this video! I have a '14 Taurus with the same 3.5. I did not have to remove the coolant hoses to remove the starter. I removed the air filter assembly, battery and tray, popped the shifter linkage off the transmission L bracket and then remove the 3 bolts from the black bracket that holds the shifter cable and wiring harness for room. The starter came out and went in easily and I didn't have to mess with draining coolant. Don't be afraid of popping off the shifter linkage, the black and yellowish plastic is just pressed onto a ball joint on the L bracket of the transmission. But be sure to use the parking brake and/or blocks because its very easy to shift the car into neutral.

How easy is it to break that yellow and black linkage? Is there a video removing this stuff? I'm doing this in an apartment so spilling coolant isn't an option.

@@DasProtoss You would really have to be trying to break it. It pops off easily, just count lines or mark it so you know where it was when you put it back on. I didnt record anything but its really straight forward.

@@pkvillager I got it! But also, the ground wire (bottom prong), I had to take the nut off and flip the wire around as the prong on the power cable was too close to ground and was arcing and popped the fuse. Appreciate the response though :)

I watched this video and 2 days ago I did this job on a 2008 Ford Taurus 3.5. I did it without unhooking the transmission shifter cable and that was a pain but I got the old one out and new one in with some wiggling.

My mazda cx 9 has a 3.7 Ford engine. For some time now, the engine of the night stop has been turning on and off. It starts the second or third time. Then it starts normally. I cleaned the fuel mesh filter. Is it a faulty fuel pump? Forscan shows error p0171 - poor mixture of cylinders group one. What is going on? please help
