Ford Escape transmission fluid change removal and fill/includes transmission filter information.

So in this video I am going to change the transmission fluid in a 2005 Ford escape with the 3.0 V6 automatic transmission draining the transmission fluid way I do it without the vehicle running will remove about 4 quarts of the transmission fluid from the transmission the service interval for the transmission fluid service is supposed to be every 30,000 miles in this would keep the transmission fluid Consistent.
The full transmission fluid capacity is about 10 1/2 quarts the only way you would be able to remove all of the transmission fluid and flush it completely is to remove the transmission fluid lines that go to the cooler which is located on the radiator itself near the lower radiator hose you would have to remove one of them lines and constantly flush the fluid you would do this by putting in a funnel on the filler neck of the transmission. While having one of the lines removed you would pour a new transmission fluid as the transmission pumps out the old trans mission fluid with the engine running until the transmission fluid coming out of the line near the radiator was the same consistency and color as the transmission fluid that you were putting in the transmission I will make video of this later I’m sure someday but today it was not necessary for me to do that procedure.

I had an o6 Escape come to me after my uncle passed away and it's coming up on 15 years old So It's coming time to do things like trans filter and drivtrain fluids.... I've never seen so many half assed Engineered obstacles to repairing and servicing a vehicle as I've seen on an 06 Ford Escape..... Seems like Ford just wanted you to drive it into the ground so you'd have to buy a new one....

Use the check plug on the side of the transmission to verify correct fluid level. With engine running at operating temp, remove check plug and add trans fluid until you see light stream of fluid coming out. Reinstall check plug. Done

Thank you for telling me that. I wasn't sure about the filter on that one, this lady just put water in her transmission fluid thinking it was the windshield wipers. She hasn't engaged the transmission yet but we're going to drain everything period we're going to start with the reservoir they put the water in from the hose on it and then drain the transmission separately. It has been setting for a day so I really hope it hasn't mixed and separated so the water got into the filter yet. Fingers crossed

Concerning the type of ATF fluid and cross checking everything 2001-2006 models (the dipstick you pulled being an '05) Recommend MERCON (only) - and caution not to mix Mercon V or dual usage Mercon/Mercon V. I've read the 2007-2008 models take Mercon V and then the 2009 & later models take Mercon LV. I didn't get a book with my '04 and had to pick up a Haynes manual but there is certainly a discrepancy between all the fluids, and looking around for Mercon I've noticed it's no longer being made. Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF seems to be equivalent, if that helps anybody else looking for the right stuff to use.

Later Mercon V is backward compatible with Mercon, I did use Shell Spirax S5- ATF X for Ford Mercon and Mercon V.

I Have a 2005 Ford Escape XLT and I changed out the cv joint on the driver's side and lost a lot of trans fluid Not sure how much to put back in? the old fluid was nice and red how much should I add or should I pull drain plug out and see how much was left in there? Your video was a major help

Note that the Gen 1 Escape engine and transmission carried over into the first year (2008) of the Gen 2 Escape (2008-2012). This applies to both, the I4 and V6 models.

Me personally I own three of them right now and many of them have well over 200,000 miles on them I think one of them has 236mi so I would say not that often but I have seen them with bad transmissions. It’s just not very often and if you’re nearby I’ve got one that you can have for $100 if you need it LOL it’s for a 2002 though so it may not work in later models also depends on what year Escape you’re talking about as well

@@sharpcarco I just looked at a 2010 v6 and its clean but with a good oil leak up front in the bulkhead side. I was thinking the valve cover maybe. I want to get this for my son but was not sure it its more serious that that. Im a tech and can fix a lot but I'm not familiar with these cars

No the removal of the upper intake is really really simple on these and repairing a valve cover is not that big a deal

If I change 4qts when it drains like this and refill than drive another 5k miles and changed 4 more qts. Would that be good thought or no?

It would probably have no effect on the second one because then everything would be mixed

Not perfect but "good enough" as it will be mixed but the new to old fluid ratio goes up each time. After doing that it should be about 70% new fluid. A little wary about doing the radiator feed line method as you don't want to run it dry.

Particles as a binding agent? Never heard of such a thing. I just bought this exact Escape even the color! Its an 05 with 148k miles. No service records. Everything i read and hear is saying change the trans fluid. I will be financially destroyed if my trans goes! My job is 45 min away! Wish i hadnt seen this video im so stressed now fuck!

@@sharpcarco I passed on it was leaking oil from head gasket looked like and suffered power loss while idling. Recipe for disaster . Don't need a ton of problems like that just need something back and forth for winter this year. Granted he only wanted 2k and everything else seemed alright with it. Went through gears fine, started up first try. 4wd worked .. idk
