I've owned a poorly '72 mk1 for about 5 years now and only just getting started. I have the dreaded rear scuttle rot like you (fortunately just one side) front winscreen/scuttle...one corner and I'm converting to RHD! i'm an Essex lad that's lived in Germany for 11 years. My Mrs (also English) can't understand why i want RHD. Simply put...the Mexico (which mine will be a replica of) wasn't sold in Europe and everyone knows Mk1 Escorts have to be RHD just as all the same era Opel Kadetts need to be LHD. I bought mine in 2019 from a lovely chap in Croatia. Drove down with a borrowed trailer and back in 2 days. The fun thing is I have its last parking permit for a University in Zagreb. It was on the road in 2017 still! Keep up the great work chap. You're inspiring me to get on with mine!

Brilliant, all the best with your project, I hope my RHD conversion videos come in handy

Coming along, just one point, be careful about wax injecting before you paint, some of these contain silicone and that stuff is a painters nightmare, keep them coming inspiration for us all

Hi Dave, I hope you are well, mate. After your cardio episode. I keep going on the RTec website and looking at the mig welder like yours. Now, here is the problem, I am a serial purchaser, and it will get me into all sorts of trouble with the missus. I am going to tell her you told me to buy it. 😂😂 keep the videos coming, Dave. i enjoy every one of them.

Thanks 😊 go ahead blame me, I usually get the blame for stuff 🤣🤣 I even got blamed for starting an earthquake here a few years ago 🤣🤣
@malcolmchadwick4047Ай бұрын
@DavesGarageuk A few years ago, we had an eclipse, I told everyone it was my missus bent over getting the mince meat out of the freezer. 😂😂 Seriously, i am going on to 0.6 mig wire and give that a shot first. Cheers Dave.

Wonder if the little dots are solvent pop Dave, can happen sometimes if coats dont get enough time to flash off. Glad you didnt burn that nice fresh paint when welding . Dash looks good after the mods.

Great job dave us daves do a brilliant job 😅. wanted ask you ive just been halfords to buy some the weld through primer but its not in stock are you still managing to get hold of it ?? if you could let me know because ive been using it but ran out and want some more 😢 thanks
@DavesGarageukАй бұрын
I've managed to get some about 4 weeks ago, but I have heard that Halfords may be discontinuing it, pity, its the only paint they sell that's any good
@davecollumbell4592Ай бұрын
@@DavesGarageuk thanks for the reply dave. is there any second best aerosol non porous primers besides the halfords primer???? just doing the metal work and its was handy to use for small repairs stopping the rust coming back through. not to sure which is best to use or good as now.

@@davecollumbell4592 I guess anything with high zinc content is worth trying

Despite the fact it will be covered in carpet I was horrified when you were going to weld inside the cabin without proper welding blankets covering all the paintwork properly after all that work getting it nice. I had visions of burn marks to the floor from burnt through bedsheet. Luckily it worked out well and the dash looks nice too.

I would have made a box to go behind the hole on the dash which could act as a glove box (open) rather than covering over the dash opening
@DavesGarageukАй бұрын
I did consider this, but decided against it.

Your attempt at metal finishing looks like every single welding job I've done on my cars. Only slightly better.😆
