Dave just a quick note about potential winter work, another good diy tip using cleaner “outside air” feeding into a work space I’d to have one or more old floor mounted fan heaters/kick space heaters mounted in a timber wall/ door/ window aperture blowing into the garage. This will warm and dry your winter work space more quickly but will also positively pressurise the work space slightly helping the evacuation of old contaminated air to exit through an outlet vent. (I used to switch mine on about an hour before starting the job)…Bless you mate 🙏
@DavesGarageuk2 ай бұрын
That's a good idea, ta
@leepatterson40092 ай бұрын
See if you can adapt you air fed mask to get air from a filter mounted outside your garage.. then you are not filtering contaminated air from inside your garage. Glad to see it coming along. In a very similar place with my own build!
@DavesGarageuk2 ай бұрын
I'll have to ponder that one, that'll mean another hose, but should be possible
@philtucker12242 ай бұрын
@@DavesGarageukGood point and bear in mind that external fresh air can be extremely cold and damp in January! (At Piper Cams in the seventies we used external air but it ran through a pre heater dryer before coming in to the building)

Dave, I used to have an American mask called "Hobby Air" which was essentially an air-fed mask that delivered air from a pump that sat outside the garage. It was brilliant until I flattened it with the car........... The only drawback was you then had two hoses to contend with but it meant that the filter didn't keep getting clogged with paint.

That's looking good Dave. I agree with the comment about the soft sanding pads. Wonderful things and not too expensive. I have also seen bubbles coming into the paint pot. I cured this by stripping the gun and giving it all a good clean with 2K thinners. Just running thinners through the gun wasn't good enough. Clean all of the passages with a small brush. TeePees for cleaning between teeth can be used
@DavesGarageuk2 ай бұрын
I did try that, but no difference 😕

Glad your on the mend. Perhaps it's the seal in the gun away. I know some guns use sealing washers, and they are a they are a consumable item. 👍

Air fed masks have a clean air supply and also P3 cartridge filters are not recommend when using isocyanates. Booth clearance tests highlight the dangers.. You will end up with blue lips lol

Nice work Dave, good to see you back at it! Personally, I seem to be getting worse rather than better, so reluctantly going to the doctors tomorrow to see if I can get some ideas. Engine bays are a pain to paint, you've done well. You probably know, but the HB Body 989 can be thinned to 50% using the proper thinners (755 from memory, could be wrong) which enables you to spray it with a 1.3mm setup, ideal for the small rub-throughs as it goes on thin and smooth, and covers perfectly with high build. I bought 2 cheap guns which failed miserably. I have 4 guns now which have sprayed loads and seem to be really lasting the course. They are an Airgunsa AZT3 HTE in 1.3mm which I use for basecoat and sealer (thinned epoxy and primer), a DeVilbiss FLG5 in 1.4mm for clearcoat, an ANI mini gun in 1mm for small parts, really handy, and an ANI F1/N in 1.8mm for primers. I think the total cost of all 4 was under £300 from Sprayguns Direct.

I dont understand your airfed mask system? Whats the difference between having the filters on the mask instead of via a tube on your waist? Both are giving you air from the same source?
@DavesGarageuk2 ай бұрын
It's being pushed into the mask with a pump, so the mask is positive pressure, no risk of fumes getting in from the sides
