Hi Dave, great work as always. I really admire how you've embraced the 3D printing. On the subject of the painting, you are well able to do a good job yourself, you definitely have the skills. Painting is 98% preparation and patience, which you definitely know all about. I have painted 3 cars now in my own garage at home. One is still a project, but the other two have been to many car shows and stood up to professional scrutiny. The problem is, I put loads of effort into getting the finished car as good as I was able, and that still left me with the feeling of being scared to park the car anywhere. It's a fine line I'm afraid. I could give you lots of tips, particularly when it comes to mistakes!

Nice print on the vents. I suggest you use petg, abs or asa. Pla does not have the heat resistance to be in a car. It will become soft and deform. Nice videos, keep them coming.

Good advise on doing a dry build first Dave. Previously you mentioned you were painting it Ermine white with the blue RS2000 decals! I dont want to rain on your parade at all, but MK1 RS2000s where only ever built in Diamond White. So Ermine may not suit the blue decals as its more "creamy". Just thought I would give you the heads up and some food for thought :) Cheers

Good progress Dave. I'm really pleased that you are going to paint this yourself. I'm sure that I'll learn something from how you approach it. I totally agree with you about paying for an expensive paint job and then being too scared to drive it or fretting over minor scrapes and dings.

Hello Dave, I’m really getting very excited for you now, (as you may recall I am a devoted mk1 fan since I had my 1600 crossflow bubble arch back in ‘74). Your car really takes me back and I’m very much looking forward to the stripping and painting episodes. I hope we can meet at either Goodwood or Silverstone one day, with the finished car. Bless you matey. 🙏

Use a marker pen to colour in around the back light then wiggle the light about and it will scuff the ink where the high spots are.

@DavesGarageuk5 ай бұрын
Hi Paul, I haven't run the brake lines yet, but I'll be running them and the fuel line inside as much as possible, too many speed humps and bumps around to rip them off

Hi Dave I have a Eland 200 Which works great!! But I am welding my van now so I bought a 15kg 0.6 wire, I changed the wire feed roller to 0.6 but the wire won’t feed into the gun. I think now it’s the weight of the15kg roll of wire is too heavy. I put the half roll of 0.8 wire in and it works great. Could help me Regards Garry

on the subject of the DVLA the fact is that the rules that have been in place for over 30 years mean if caught your car would be sent for IVA , not that many people get caught but there have been loads of escorts had their log book taken because of bubble/forrest arches, just because loads get away with it doesnt mean it doesnt happen, the rules clearly state cutting a monocoque up is a no no but we all do it, ive been doing it for 40 yrs myself ,if you need any more info just contact me if you want

@@DavesGarageuk anyone that has actually owned up to being caught has said that their log book was sent to DVLA for some reason , change of owner / address / colour / engine size etc , i have never heard of anyone being caught any other way , the link you have probably seen about the most recent consultation was probably from the FBHVC , they however have no interest in "modified" classics as their fight is only for stock classics, anyone wanting to reply to the consultation would be better of doing it straight from the DVLA site and not the FBHVC link as their answers lean towards cars being stock as they left the factory
