Dave. Do you have the original log book for the car from the country of origin? I've imported and registered two vehicles with no log book, need a letter of how you got vehicle, a receipt, Ford or owners club to verify date of manufacture. If it is classed as a rebuilt vehicle it may get an age related plate but not historic status, meaning it won't be tax exempt.hope this helps great to see another bloke working in his garage .👍

From my understanding the main thing the dvla are clamping down on is people applying for logbooks that’s been in a cupboard for years with no actual car to go with, so they’re asking for proof of the car. And also the ‘historical’ vehicle classification where you are then tax and mot exempt, but if you look into it it’s only meant for standard or as close to standard cars to get it. They have a points system for axles, body, engine, gearbox etc and if it doesn’t score the right amount of points it can’t get it, so becomes taxable, but the danger then is if it’s massively modified they might investigate more and Q plate it. Is yours classed as historical Dave?

@@DavesGarageuk Do you have the newer style of logbook? And don’t suppose you know when the car was last on the road? To be safe I’d mot the car once done, and then you still have to apply to not pay tax, but at least then the dvla will see it’s been mot’ed so will at least know it’s been checked over by someone and it’s safe. Next thing is, have you/will you be changing the cc on the logbook? As that’s where they might start asking questions. But again, I’d get it mot’ed first and on the road, then maybe tell them about the engine swap?

Must be soul destroying pulling it all apart after all that work but at least it’s for the last time . I’m really looking forward to the bodywork and paint stage . It seemed so far away when you started but now you’re here and it’s next on the list ! Brilliant Dave well done mate 👍

best to have a UK car Dave when it comes to the DVLA, then you can still modify it, the crack is you will probably have to tax it and maybe an engineers report you no the score the government want to charge you, wa........ , i do no if you tell them its an import they will try an Q it so bear that in mind

Dave if you have a v5 and it is already registered don't worry about it. It is aimed at people building a car from parts. Keep up the good work. Painting is preparation, preparation, preparation, the hard bit people hate.

Wouldn't worry too much Dave about DVLA stuff.Yes its modified but it hasn't been radically altered. 'radically' a word used by dvla which of course is open to interpretation. For instance you haven't stretched the wheelbase,nor widened it apart from arches. Many people have done effectively restomods similar to yours. Besides dvla changes its mind like the direction of the wind !!! 🤣🤣🤣 Keep up the great work.👍

For a classic car it basically has to be the same as it left the factory. You can make alterations for safety if your car was pre seat belt or things like upgrading to disc brakes power steering etc. If you put an engine in that was not available on your model of car that's a substantial change and no longer classic.

The EU are trying to stop all repairs on vehicles over 15 years old and a Labour spokesman has said there is merit to the plan. Along with the 20mph situation and they are reintroducing the ICE ban in six years if they get into power.

She’s looking great already. Can’t wait to see her in paint. I don’t think the more strict DVLA rules are something to worry about unless you are really making big changes which can affect the structural integrity of your vehicle. Mostly rules like that are implemented to prevent real bad builds or extremely modified vehicles from getting on the road.

please tell me you are going to restore it to factory or as close as maybe a few sympathetic upgrades for brakes ect.. but not making it into boy racer chav car ... vote Reform and stop this net zero crap.. that will help everyone who owns a car.

The most of the restoration is done, welding and fabrication etc, just tear down and paint now
