Its unfortunate the Isuzu MU-X does not have a 4WD system that works on standard sealed roads such as the Ford & Mitsu. The Pajero Sport might be getting old but it's still a great 4WD that can be used 100% of the time on all road surfaces. The Ford is great too but is it really worth the extra $10-15K?

The two vehicles with AWD on tarmac are at a great advantage. Very useful when it rains after a dry spell as that's whe the roads are the most slippery. Except for snow and ice in the high country areas. Pajero does it all saving 10K

I have never once wished I had 4wd mode for the road in the MUX. Towing a 3 tonne caravan, not towing, raining, none of it ever required an extra 2 driven wheels. I’m sure there are some exceptional circumstances where it might be handy, but I’ll take the fuel economy, less weight, and less complexity from not having the centre diff any day

@@MrCasino3 Ever driven the southern sides on mountains in Tasmania in winter ? I had occasion to in a hired Pajero (proper) and the 4H came in handy because at all the sharp turns there was water and algae on the road which was very slippery. Threw it into 4H and no probs.

Love our Mux lst have just finished 25000kms towing a 2800kg newage manta ray over east and Tasmania no mods didnt miss a beat and proformed great in our SA 4x4 driving course very impressed with how it went in the sand

Isuzu has stayed true to its roots. Not trying to move to the luxury side and sticking with its original workhorse purpose. I think that's what makes it one of the best. I own a 2019 2.5l D-Max and I will say it is the best car I've owned by far. Reliable and honestly a great offroad performer. Suspension is not the most comfortable on the road but offroad is where it excels.

It would be interesting to find out over time whether the clutch packs in the Ford's transfer case eventually wear out and require replacement. The Pajero Sport and the Isuzu MU-X do not employ clutches in their transfer case, so there is no friction materials that could eventually requirement replacement.

@@351tgvLol. Even the lexus lx and landcruiser 80 , 100,200,300 all have a wheelbase of 4850mm something that toyota calls golden ratio. Nissan patrol is bigger but has a higher ground clearance so much so that you can literally put a 33.9 inch tyre on a stock patrol without any lift. Silly to compare everest with patrol. The top spec everest with bigger tyres can do extremely good. But not a stock one for sure. Interestingly the stock patrol has a ground clearance of 270 mm.

I find it interesting how most of these car review experts, just review the cars and give opinon based on how they drive, look etc. Based on that, they influence or persuade people on what cars they should buy. Never mention or include about the after sale customer support, reliability, and how prolific some car manufactures/dealers are, with throwing customers under the bus with legitimate claims. I would like it if the they priced the up grades they talk about. Compare the lift price, suspension, tyres and bash plates. See if it’s really worth it to bulletproof your family 4wd? Plus the weight difference that might affect your towing.

Nothing against the Mitsi, in fact for the price I'm pretty sure I'd pick it over the Isuzu and Ford, well, no chance I'd fork out $80k for a Ford. However I don't recommend mentioning race cars when discussing their road variants. Dakar Mitsi's are simply a road car shaped body on a different platform which can't be purchased = no relevance to what you can buy in a dealership. Cheers

Isuzu is poor with every other reviewer. As a matter of physics the Ford cannot use double the other two vehicles. He did the same with the Ssangyong. It runs 6 litres/hundred on the highway and he suggested a 650 km range after including low range driving into the fuel economy - who does that? It easily reaches 1000km on the highway, but Isuzu to be rated best in class here shows where his pay comes from. Just rubbish...

I had a 90's SWB Pajero and loved the thing, sold it to a friend at 300,000 km because the Mrs wanted something more upmarket, so found a Pajero sport with low km's, have had it 6 years and think it's awesome too, very comfortable and nimble, There's also a SWB V6 GDI (2001 yr) in the garage that's fun to drive . My friend loved the old one I sold her too, sadly it caught fire because of a birds nest, I was as gutted as her.

@@danielgonzalezd.4343 Yeah I like the landrovers too, Perhaps the reason the US doesn't have pajero's could be to do with size, The US seems to like big 4x4"s and the Pajero is fairly snug inside . It's perfect for me as I'm tall and lean and feels more like a sportscar than a 4x4, reminds me of the MGBGT I had when I was a young bloke, I won't be trading it for a long time.

And yes I would say most Americans would rather a bigger 4x4 SUV, because they are quite spacious. I am in Bermuda now, and I saw a couple of pajeros here and they are awesome cars. It is really a pity they don't exist in the U.S. But any way enjoy your car for years to come. I Wil do the same with my Land Rover Discovery sport.

Ordered Pajero Sport this spring and seems new facelifted models arriving, according to dealer photos. I think grille openings way too large and rads easily susceptible to damage in refreshed Pajero Sport. Mainly using paved roads but anyway would you recommend to add some additional protection? (in other words, will cooling be compromised when doing so?). Otherwise, afraid warranty will not cover cases when radiator gets damaged by stones or various road debris.

Nice review and good to see some proper offroading done on these as they come from the factory. No doubt most buyers would be quick to fit some ATs and would be great if they had that as an option (the Everest might?). Worth noting the MUX is also about 10k cheaper than the Everest in the real world given the permanent drive-away deal.

I just had my isuzu mux last year. Undeniably it is more 100% reliable in terms pf durability, performance and fuel consumption. I must say Isuzu MUX is underrated but can compete to the roads impressively.

How hard were you pushing the Everest to get 20.4L fuel consumption? Seriously there is a massive error going on with your driving style to get that high fuel consumption when everyone else who hs done 4x4 low range testing is showing around 12L per 100km. Did you leave it locked in 1st gear only? you claim to be a driver that wants to take control ... I call BS on that Marcus, clearly you did not take control of the manual mode transmission option.

My Isuzu 2021 developed DPF problem and Isuzu Ute Australia did everything to refuse warranty repair. Took them 4 weeks to come up with pathetic excuse of dirt in the fuel tank. I will not buy another Isuzu.

yep lots and lots of info about the DPF issues with the D-Max and M-UX but the automotive media are refusing to report it for fear of losing advertising money. I know of at least 15 D-Max off the road because of th DPF issue and Isuzu refusing to fix under warranty claiming the DPF is a consumable part

Everest’s fuel consumption is very poor and not the first time I have seen that in tests. Strange in some ways as have the same engine base in my 2015 D4 with the ZF8 speed and it has been very economical over 7 years at around 11l/100K overall. Maybe its tuned in a way that any off-road use spikes it dramatically.

I had the 1st Gen Everest with the good ol 3.2L 5cyl and 6-speed torque converter auto way back some 7 years ago and also had a Pajero Sport 2.4L i4 with 8-speed torque converter at the same time and I can tell you this much from what I recall the Everest was the better of the two at highway cruising loaded up, the Pajero Sport had to be in essentially AWD mode to get anywhere near it, that said for fuel consumption the Pajero Sport was ahead by about 2L per 100km however with a smaller fuel tank (68L v 80L) the Everest had more range so it ws pretty much equal save for the added fuel cost f going to full tank.

Traction control is only there to stabilize the power and that's why the mu-x is just a better offroader than let's say Fortuner ,pajero ECT since it has rough terrain mode which turns off diff locks is engaged . Hill decent control is the only buggy feature , since you have to come to a full stop to engage Hill decent. Since the dmax and mu-z is 5-15k grand cheaper than let's say a Everest .

It’s out of date in safety by a long way and should not be compared in the current tested ancap 5 star it’s only 3-4 at best.

Why do all theses comparisons with the utes and suvs when it comes to the ranger and ereverest they have the v6 when they make a 4 cylinder it’s like bringing a gun to a knife fight. Not really a true comparison to me.
