Ford Excursion & Expedition Dome light and wiring, removal and replacement

I own a 2001 Excursion w/Triton V10. This vid is the way vids should be done! Excellent visual and audio clarity with fantastic attention to detail. I need to fix exactly what this guy showed on this vid. He just saved me bookoo $$. Thnx. We need more repair vids, of every kind, for 2001 Ford Excursion Limited's, as they are still in abundance in the road and actually quite popular and desireable vehicles. Great job guys👍

Don’t have an Excursion or Expedition, but I do have a Windstar with a overhead console, and a broken cover for the overhead door opener pocket. I was not able to find a “how to” video specifically for Windstar, but your console removal portion of the video was close enough that I was able to remove it and install a replacement cover. Though I did not need the instructions on the electrical repair, you had such great advice in general on working with this delicate plastic that I continued to watch the rest of it. Excellent info and also video production. Thank you for all your effort, it was much appreciated!

I habe an XLT with just a pantl that says excursion, no led readout screen. Do you know if i purchased one thay had the screen if it would be plug and play or not work at all

I'm not sure if the plug is there or not. I have a video here (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnS1cnh-pdNskKs) that shows you how to remove the whole overhead console so you could see if you have the plug. Good luck.

I had gone to the local pick-n-pull junkyard and grabbed them. They are in the Expeditions and Excursions.

Thanks for the video. I made an attempt at resoldering the flex cable that fits under each bulb. That cable broke in several spots. Is there a replacement flex cable available? I guess you can hard wire the bulbs? Thanks

I am not aware of any replacement flex cables. I do not offer used replacements for the reason they are so delicate. I have seen people hard wire new bulb sockets in place or add led replacements. Good luck.

Have you seen any videos or information on hard wiring those lights? I’ve been to a few junk yards trying to replacing the broken ribbon but they all break when trying to replace the bulb so upgraded all interior bulbs to white LEDs and it looks great except no lights in the driver and passenger area any help would be great fully appreciated

I'm sorry but I've been out of those parts for a while. You aren't able to get them from a dealer so a junkyard or auto recycler would be the only place I know. There might be some resellers on Ebay.

My dome light has no bulbs in the front and the buttons don’t have little black knobs or their cover

Piktureit, if you have a junk yard near you, you can find the parts in both the Excursion and 99-02 Expeditions.

I have been asked to repair ones that are sent in and I'd be happy to do that but it sounds like your already missing pieces. If you have a local junkyard or a you-pick-it type yard, you can obtain the parts from either the Excursion or an Expedition (1997-2002).

I have seen them on eBay. Buying the doors individually can be difficult in getting the right color match. I used to sell the the dome light assembly as a whole so the colors stayed the same. If you're handy, you can pick them up at a pick-n-pull type junkyard. They can be found in both the Excursions and Expeditions (which are more commonly found).

Hi Adam, I'm sorry for the late reply. I don't have a video for that at the moment. I'll work on getting one for you. The reason I hadn't approached it before is I found it very difficult to match the colors with replacement parts. So the solution was to replace the whole unit.
