Same here. Had my windshield replaced and instead of replacing the busted clips, they just used silicone and the trim flew off on the highway.

@@blackrifle3932 it s my sister's car and we didn't use any adhesive. The clips snap in and held it just fine. Now I have to use some silicone adhesive for the side panel with the door code on it. It's falling off. Ford could use a re-design, this is ridiculous.

PLEASE LISTEN to this man when he says put the top in first after sliding the bottom in to make sure it fits. I did not do this and tried to remove my panel and it snapped in two. Thank you for this video!

Thanks for the video. Now if only I could find someone like Alfredo that I can trust to do a good job of it. I don't know if the windshield was replaced or even properly installed from the factory. I bought my used 2017 Explorer Limited and a week later this part flew off going down the highway for apparently no reason. I do see that there were very large globs of black glue used on it before. Golf ball diameter +. The blot on part is still on the car of course, but clips are broken off and the outer part is somewhere on the highway.

Mine is a used 2016 Limited and same thing happened to me! Ridiculous to buy something and this happen. Only my dealership had sticky squares like command strips to hold it. At least yours used glue 😒

Thanks for this video Alfredo. Really helps. We lost the drivers side in a snow storm and just now got the part. Wish I had seen this before I bought the single one from Ford for our 2013. Thing I noticed on the old one is they have some kind of Velcro at the base. So the replacements are using the adhesive instead? What would a DIY'er use for adhesive?

You actually don’t need glue. If you just get the 2093 molding and install it without glue, you’re good to go. I have never had problems with it

Can you provide a link or comment on the primer and urethane used to bond the 2 pieces. I know that by doing this if something happens you are going to have to replace both pieces in the future, but would rather do this than have it fly off!

So has mine. I'm 56 and this is my first American car. I thought I'd give Ford a chance, but so far with only 15,000 miles on it I've had the windshield stripping come off, the front edge of the hood rusting and paint peeling off, rusted fuse box relays, and the problem with the exhaust fumes coming into the cabin, despite the "complimentary service" the dealer gave the car to plug a few holes that supposedly caused the problem. So much for "quality is job 1"; this Explorer is my first and last American car.

Did the rubber trim around the windshield come off on yours? Mine did on my 2018 now I get a horrible wind/rattling noise above 40mph! Dealer quoted "at least" 1200 to fix!!! On a three year old, $45,000 vehicle?!?! 😡😡

what brand of urethane adhesive do you use? Will a primerless adhesive work just as good?

I personally use Betaseal Xpress30 it does use primer 5504G. Primerless urethane is primerless to glass only not to plastic. You would still have to use primer if you really want it to bond properly. You can also use U418 urethane which is solvent based and should bond to rubber and properly prep plastic.

Using urethane on the interior molding? Factory molding are with Buytl only? Is gonna suck for the next installer who assumes that their is just urethane connecting the two pieces with clips. Why did you use glue and not buytl tape like factory?

Street Glide Life it’s required by the manufacturer to use urethane. Ford uses epoxy right from the factory on 2015 and up due to the moldings flying off. That’s why there is a kit for upper and lower molding. Google it or ask the manufacturer to confirm.

I wonder if there is a glass technician in the NY/NJ area that does same the type of quality glass installations that you do. Not really impressed with the glass installations I have seen by the mobile truck outfits, as the windshield is an integral part of the vehicle safety structure. And I don’t like leaks and moldings popping off.

You forgot to cover the top hole that was previously a spot that was hole for the OEM molding clip. The better kit comes with a rubber gasket to cover it. That truck might have water damage in the future.

These Ford Explorers are pieces of CRAP! Interior door molding delaminated, this windshield molding blew apart driving down the highway. Molding under the hood made a loud roaring sound driving down the highway and cost hundreds to have them fix a "Factory Defect!" VERY poorly designed plastic junk with very sloppy engineering.
