The alternator is fine... it's just the voltage regulator that is bad. It is located on the alternator, where you plug in the connector. You can just unbolt it from the back of the alternator and ord3r one for around twenty dollars.. Or if you're crafty, you can just wire in an old school external regulator and mount it to the fender well, etc.. Either one of these options should still save you a ton of money over getting the OEM; though it does burn up your time having to deal with crappy parts.

Yes, there are workarounds. But this was a customer's car and she wanted it fixed 100%. The new alternator will outlast the truck 😅. Thanks for watching.

@@NextLevelAutoDiagnosticsLLC Yeah.. I get that.. I was just talking about- for a DIY person who might read this... But for yourself, of course a new alternator was the only real choice; because even if you did fix it by repair- you would have to charge them labor anyway, so they wouldn't really save any money. So I agree with replacing it with new- for sure.

@calholli She said one shop's alternator fixed the voltage issue but the light in the cluster remained and with an active DTC she couldn't pass inspection.
