Fantastic video. I have vacuumed repeatedly, removed my cowl at the windshield and troubleshot in numerous other areas of my 2007 Lincoln Mark LT truck. I was successful in identifying ONE leak at the third brake light before seeing your video. I disassembled, cleaned and applied silicone, successfully stopping that leak, but then weeks later, AGAIN with the wiring trays at the doors full of water and the return of offensive mildew smell. As many here have attested to, I too will be removing seats and all my carpet/padding, expecting to see a missing vent as well. I had a topper installed on my truck two years ago, and the problems began shortly after that. Thank you again for pointing me in what I know will be the right direction!

Ford should be absolutely ashamed of their vehicles now adays. I have a 2018 F150 that is leaking water in on the passenger floor, and from researching it I have come to the conclusion that it is coming from the a/c drain tube. And to get at that I have to take off the front passenger tire and the wheel well liner just to get at the friggin thing. I still have warranty, but I don't like how 99% of the mechanics treat vehicles now adays, they have the "not mine I don't care" attitude.

Thank you for the very thorough video. I don’t know if I am missing the vent too but I am experiencing a musty smell after rains or car washes and have s tonneau cover. Admittedly I skipped through the video some, but you said you replaced the vent by pushing it up from the bottom...could that have been done without all the other work you did?
@Motorcarnut
@Motorcarnut 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it can, just by taking out the rear seats and trim panels in back of the seat to gain access to leaky vent OR if there is no vent, like mine, all you have to do is just slide a new one up into place from the outside under the truck between the bed and cab, a little tricky but can be done.

I have a 2008 f150. My driver's side carpet has been getting wet under the floor mat. The padding holds most of the water. I noticed water as well in the sill. I first realized I had an issue because on very cold nights my windshield was getting really wet from the inside of the truck. I need a rag to clean it. I don't know where the moisture is getting in from. Even without rain on mornings with mist in the air when I lift the carpet pad I can see moisture on the frame. I had a new windshield replaced about 10 months ago do you think it's possibly the windshield not sealed correctly or something else.
@Motorcarnut
@Motorcarnut Жыл бұрын
Very possible could be the windshield especially if it didn’t leak before replacement. Also see if the back drivers side carpet is wet too, it can be the vent like I showed in my video or the third brake light seal etc.
@arturoortiz5999
@arturoortiz5999 Жыл бұрын
@@Motorcarnut the back seat isn't wet nor is the passenger side front or back. Also headliner doesn't show any water stains or wetness. I removed rear driver side sill and there is a small presence of moisture. Was thinking it might be going from front to back. The front sill had a small puddle. Not enough to cover the wires or anything but you can see the puddle.

I have had issues with my 2017 lariat FX4. What I found was the rear sunroof drain lines were clogged and were overflowing the channel and running down the c pillars in the back drenching the carpet. I also had one door seal that was not sealing properly and filling up a channel where the electrical wires run. I cleaned the drain channels in the sunroof and the drain hoses, dried out the carpet, and drilled holes in the channel where the electrical wires run from front to back. That way if any water did get into the truck and into that channel it will not make it from the back to the front. Initially I could hear sloshing water in the truck and it turns out that it was the channel full of water. Problem has been fixed ever since I cleaned out the sunroof drain holes. I check them religiously.

I am curious if you have observed how the water drips from ac drain for those whom don’t have the 90’ elbow....the water drips from my drain onto flexible heat shield material and weighs it down on my 02 sensor possibly getting wet. Any ideas how I can secure the heat shield and keep it from sagging down onto the O2? Thanks so much. Liked and subscribed.

What a stupid design . Who in their right mind would put two LARGE vents in the back of a cab where water and possibly exhaust fumes could get in if you have an exhaust leak . I had a roll of paper towels behind the seat the first time I noticed the water in the cab . My windows were fogging up when the truck sat in the sun I knew something was wrong . Long story short , it was the lamp in the back of the cab because the head liner was also wet , so I fixed that . Now the head liner is dry but after a hard rain in the back behind the seats is gets soaked . Starting to get mold on the rug . I found out about these stupid vents by ripping that carpet of the back of the cab . They absolutely are the issue as it was still all wet around them . Question : why the hell do we need this over engineered garbage in this particular truck when I have owned many trucks that did not have these vents ?
@Motorcarnut

All vehicles have cabin vents but where there located and how they’re designed is another story. The cabin needs fresh air at all times for various health reasons. Fords design is poor and cheap.
