@@TheTwigbert That would be a smart move, but you’ll need to find someone who isn’t already aware of the “ecopuke”(parts exploders) issues and are wanting to buy such garbage!!! I tried to warn my girlfriend about buying one, but when we were in front of the salesman and she asked me what my thoughts were on buying one( I had already told her before she took it for a test drive) I asked her to step outside so the salesman didn’t hear what I was saying, but she said if I had something to say I should go ahead and say it!!! I walked out of the office and she bought the car, cause she wouldn’t listen!

Just had a transmission fluid service on my 2010 f150. It was 400$, and they fixed the sleeve that had a slow leak. Doing it all myself would have saved 300$ but i definitely would've missed that leak point. Truck has 178k with now 2 fluid drains in its life. Very happy with the transmission.

I've been through three lead frames and two transmissions. Every year my lead frame would go out and I'd have to get it repaired from Ford. I had the transmission rebuilt by a private shop and a year later I was having shift issues from 6th to 1st while driving on the freeway. Turns out it was my harness on the firewall that ran down by the exhaust manifold that had fallen off the clips and melted seven wires that went to the transmission. I don't know why the Ford technicians never caught that or check for that. It took out of my third lead frame and Ford would not cover. So I went online purchased a new lead frame new pan filter and a box of transmission oil and watched his video on how to swap it out. Did it myself or 250 bucks in my driveway and got me a wiring harness for 180 and that was two years ago and haven't had a problem since. Thanks for all the great videos keep them up

Great video, Brian. My neighbor has one of these and it leaked all over his newly poured concrete driveway. He took it to a shop, who replaced the pan gasket. It still leaked. He took it to another shop, that specializes in transmissions, and they replaced the bulkhead connector. That cured the problem. Keep up the great work.

Had a 6R80 start hard shifting and going into limp mode all the time. Dealer and trans shop quoted new transmission. Dropped the valve body and found the square pillow block, (I think it connects the pump to the torque converter), cracked in half. Replaced that, the 4 crush tubes, the bulkhead seal, and she's good as new. $125 in parts I think.

I figured this is the source of my 6R80 leak on my 2010 F150 4WD but after watching your video I'm now convinced that pulling my transfer case and replacing those seals as well as the transmission output seal will take of it.

Like you stated everything looks like a pan gasket leak given where the fluid runs. In my experience the pan gasket isn’t robust as they are intended for reuse but do not survive careful removal as it’s cheaply made. Running a trans shop we see plenty 6R80s fail, it’s all relative, let’s say they fail less than GMs 6L series but that’s not saying much. Good video as always to inform the Ford owners. We will never run out of work with Ford and GM.

I had a 2010 f-150 with a 6r80, bought it used with 70k on it, and after about 10k it started to have a shutter on light throttle at highway speed. I determined it was the torque converter, pulled it and found a ford reman one in there. Thought that was interesting, so I dropped the pan to change the filter and found a valve body bolt sitting in the pan. I figure they must have replaced the converter and never dropped the pan. I drove that truck for another 90k miles never had another issue.

Just another reason I wish they had put in a traditional trans fluid dip stick/fill tube on these 6R80 trans... I have one in my 13 F150 Ecoboost and so far so good.. Going to be doing a pan drop/filter/fluid change on the rig soon, but I'm going to be putting on a new trans pan with a drain bolt in it! Then at least for future fluid changes, I can just drain and fill a lot easier and not risk messing up the pan gasket with a pan drop each time.

Prices vary, locally, dealerships are overbooked and the prices are ridiculously high (IMO). ONLY reasons I'd take it to a dealership right now, is because it's winter and/or I don't have extra time to do it myself but even then, local dealerships have at least a 2 week backlog on work so yeah. Not really trying to complaining about dealerships but yeah situation kinda sucks.

Thank you for the great information. If the tail shaft seal is leaking, how quickly does it need repaired? I just discovered similar looking evidence of leaking on my 15 F150, just shy of 114,000 miles. I’ve owned it four years, since about 25,000 miles, with no transmission issues. I discovered the leak as it has coated part of the transfer case. I have seen zero drips or puddling on any surface where I commonly park.

My 2014 Expedition had the bulkhead sleeve leak and get fluid on the wire connections. The dash went crazy, with lights flashing, gauges bouncing one end to the other and every possible message displaying. All while driving. Parked the vehicle and it would not restart because it would not recognize the chip in either key. The sleeve was replaced and the wires cleaned. Couple of months later there was a relapse and the vehicle became completely undrivable. The dash cluster controller shorted out. Currently waiting on repairs.

Small leaks can not just be a nuisance but also dangerous for the transmission depending on how bad the leak is. B&M Transmissions sells a transmission dipstick kit where one can check the trans fluid level from under the hood. Are these kits safe for day to day use and would you recommend them? I realize the leaks have to be repaired but sometimes we are in remote locations and can't access parts right away.
@ryantracy1531
@ryantracy1531 Жыл бұрын
I installed the B&M dipstick on my 2011 expedition and I like it. No leaks after 6000 miles or so. The fittings are nice and machined well. Tech tip: I put some stainless zip ties to keep the tube off the exhaust down pipe. Be sure to make sure your trans is properly filled before installing so you can get a good mark on the new dipstick.
@chrisgraham2904
@chrisgraham2904 Жыл бұрын
Ford eliminated the dipstick because these transmissions are sealed and pressurized, but the aftermarket dipsticks provide the same seal and seem to do a good job. The dipstick connection at the transmission is a push fit with O-rings, rather than a screwed mechanical connection that is a concern, but I haven't heard of any actual issues. The aftermarket kit is usually $200 to $250 in the U.S., but I haven't found the kit available in Canada under $550.00

Awesome Videos! You always explain everything in full and great details. This is not really related but my search brought me here. I have a 2014 F150 5.0, I've had the rear main seal replaced. to do this they had to drop the tranny pan and replaced filter and fluid. Ive checked the tranny fluid level recently and it was up to temp boy this is sure fun to do. My fluid was dark reddish rusty brown but does not smell burnt is this normal for LV fluid. When i open tranny fill 19mm port to access dip stick fluid is running out of the port and I am unable to get an accurate read because fluid is everywhere no matter how many times I wipe the port there is always fluid there to hinder my read. Still yet to check at cold temp. Does this sound like too much fluid in my transmission. The reason for checking fluid is that my 3rd to 4th gear has a shudder when shifting. What could this be? If you could give me some insight with all of your ford experience. I appreciate you man keep it up.

I have had some concerns with hard shifting in my ‘17 f150 with a 6R80. I’m pretty confident that all recalls and so on were complied with by somewhere in the realm of 2019-2020. I’ve also experienced where it wouldn’t upshift while in tow mode. I’d pass someone, it would downshift to 2nd or 3rd gear, and then wouldn’t upshift. I’d have to slow down and accelerate slowly, or knock it out of tow mode. This seems to me like software issues. Do you know when the latest and greatest came out on that? Would they have completed software updates before I purchased it in 2019, or when I brought it in for unrelated service in 2020?

It feels like the car lurches forward a bit, or has a bit of a power surge when this happens. I've taken it to two Ford dealerships, and neither can figure it out. There are no codes popping up, but this is NOT normal behavior. Any suggestions or ideas as to what it could be? Thanks!

So is the trans filter accessible when dropping the Trans pan? When I got my 2016 f150 serviced for filter and Trans fluid change at the Ford house they told me it wasn't accessible from the pan. They said it was built in and non changeable.

Son in law has a 2008 ford explorer sport trac 4.6L 4x4. Speed sensor went out. TCM is bolted to valvebody. Bought new one the was suppose to be programmed. Installed. Won't Start. The Starter Will engage for a second then stop (similar to security) Took it to Ford dealership, Firestone and nobody can seem to fix the issue. Install original valvebody, cranks right up like normal but input speed sensor is bad. In order to start, the relay has to be manually closed, engine will start, Rev up to 3000 for a second, then idle down like normal and drive normal. At a loss as dealership stated it was "to old" to reprogram the Tcm. Any recommendations?

I have a 6r60 in my 07 Explorer, runs smooth with 140k miles on it now. I added a drain plug when I dropped the pan so it's easier to service the trans, highly recommend it. Btw that same truck has a small misfire at 1,5k-1,8k rpm, not enough to cause a check engine light but just enough to feel it under light load. I've replaced spark plugs and all 8 coils with genuine MC parts. Still the misfire exist, any ideas what else to look for? Maybe a airleak or a bad fuel injector?

You sure you don't have an EGR clog somewhere? It's pretty common for an EGR system to get partially clogged and the cylinders fire unevenly at low rpm and low load.

@davidkelp9444 Жыл бұрын
Get a scan tool and look at misfire data. You have to know if it's all the cylinders or just one or two. That's the starting point. Don't just throw parts at it.

@clover it's a 3v 4.6 so I don't think it has a EGR but I'll see if it has one

@David Kelp I scanned it and it gave "random cylinder misfire detected" Strange because no CEL was on. Now I'm guessing it's a air leak since it can't give me a direct cylinder

@@mr.boostang2064 I doubt it's a vacuum leak. It would probably have to be huge to cause a misfire. You would be able to hear a big vacuum leak by the hissing noise. I would still look at misfire data to see if just one side is being affected or both sides. If just one bank is misfiring, then you look at injectors or ignition or maybe intake manifold. If both sides, look at egr or maf sensor, such as that. Intake manifolds are not an uncommon problem on 4.6's.

I just got a 2019 f150, 3.3 with the 6spd auto. Is this the same Trans that is in the escape that isn't accessible and requires the flush?also is the 3.3 a good engine?

Hello my name is Greg De Mare I’m a bmw master tech in South Carolina. I think all your videos are awesome. I own a 2015 F-150 I’m trying to get Apple car play to work. I know there are different versions of sync and the usb port is different in the later models I saw a video that this guy changed the usb hub to part number HC3Z-19A387-F and said that’s all you need after updating sync to the latest version he has a 2016 and the usb hub plugged right in. On my 2015 it won’t plug in there must be an adapter cable. Any ideas on how to get apple car play to work in my 2015?

Questions...I have a 2016 f150 5.0 60,000 miles. I keep getting a burning oil smell inside the cab that is intermittent. It comes and goes. I have had it to ford dealer 4 times and they can not find a leak and they even put dye in the oil and still found nothing. Do you have any suggestions or have you seen this before and maybe it's coming from a specific location? Thanks for your help

You just have to take your time, clean off all the drips and all the fluid, and make a proper diagnosis. So many people see leaks and immediately want to condemn the pan gasket.
