My brake light was not on when I first realized I needed to replace these. For me while driving the truck would jerk. I thought the transmission might be going out. After some troubleshooting I realized that the little bit of ebrake I had left was stuck engaged. Even though it was metal on metal it definitely make the wheel not turn smoothly. I could have just removed the e-brakes altogether and that would have made the truck roll without jerking. Since My driveway is on a hill I decided I needed to replace the parking brake shoes. Since then I did get a ABS light come on but it has not changed the way it drives. If I were to smash the brakes hard they would probably lock up instead of pulsing like ABS supposed to. if I were you I would definitely remove the wheel and check if your parking brake is stuck.

You did a fabulous job videoing this start to finish. Wow!! What a job to tackle. I am wanting to replace pads and rotors on the back but read where sometimes the e-brake just falls out in pieces when you remove the rotor. Can you just ignore it if it does that? Can you even drive your truck to the parts store to get the parts you need? I think you are a champ for going after those. I was exhausted by the time you did just one side. lolol Oh but what a wonderful feeling knowing they are replaced and a job done right to boot. Thanks a whole lot....super video. Jesus bless.

Yeah as long as you don't have parts rubbing in that inner drum I don't think it would be a problem driving to the store and back.

Good video. I have a 2000 F150 and I hear it's the same setup. The previous owner eliminated the parking brake. I had to find an in depth video on the parts repair/replacement. The e-brake levers are missing but I wouldn't have known that without the video. Two questions. 1) The brake adjustment. Is there a clip/retainer to stop the cam from moving freely? 2) Shouldn't you use a bit of brake grease on the contact points on the shoes where they touch the backing plate? I appreciate your video. When clicking on your rear parking brake shoe link, the website states it will not fit my 2005 F-150 FX4. Did you buy this exact one for your F150 gen 11?
@jpulley3 ай бұрын
@@Chach151 I just bought what Amazon shown was a fit for my truck. I'm pretty certain there's not any difference between my 2004 lariat and your 2005 FX4 in respect to parking brake setup. If it was me I would go ahead and buy the kit. You could always send it back if it came to that.

@jpulley Жыл бұрын
At 13:07 I'm adjusting downward to push the brakes outward. However if the drum was still on and you were accessing the sprocket through the hole in the back you would be rotating upward to moves the brakes out. The main thing to know that the if you were looking at it from the front of the truck counter clockwise will push the mechanism outward. Counter clockwise will draw it in.

@@luisdonis3953 I don't know this for an absolute fact but I would imagine it would be the same way that it is in a four-wheel drive it's one cable starting from the front and then as it goes back that connects to two separate cables to pull each side

I appreciate your video and it is well done, however I hate it when videographers add “magic“ to their videos. At 4:46, you added ‘video magic’ to your video where “This” suddenly comes out easily and without explanation. There is a cable on the back “This” that is very tricky to handle with a strong spring that needs to be released. I pushed the tabs as you explained, but did not show, and everything remained under tension. I am sure now at a point where I am struggling to figure out how to relieve the tension of that spring to get the, “This” out to clean it up. I know you struggled in the same manner manner as I am now, but chose not to show how you did it. Why not? If you are going to show your experience with stuff like this, please show all of your struggles, because we will be going through those same struggles, and it helps us to learn firsthand and then decide whether we want to tackle a job like this. Thank you for hearing me out. I do appreciate your video, and I want you to understand that. I am just making a suggestion that would be more helpful to all of us.

Yeah it was some trial and error on my end until I finally popped the cable out of the bracket once the cable was free on the bracket it gave me the slack I needed to get it off. When the cable popped free I was still in trial and error not knowing that would solve me problem. So I didn't have the camera running facing the back of the brake assembly. @ 6:30 I explain how how I pressed in the tabs and I was able to slip the cable through bracket. Thanks for the feedback, I will try to include more details about hiccups I have in the future.

If your pads are gone like mine were you will feel nothing when you press your parking brake pedal all the way to the floor. When I replaced my brake pads that tightened up the brake pedal. If there is something else wrong with your pedal or brake cables/lines you will have to address those item independently from what you see me do in this video.
