Removing the Oil Filter is a pain in the hole. I have boat loads of tools and struggle each time to remove the Oil Filter. There’s a cap type socket that fits onto the Oil Filter, with a short extension it would be a dream. I’m buying one for sure. Oh ya, your right about the mess… I use Amsoil and fussy about maintenance, no one cares as much about a vehicle like the owner!

Thanks for this. I was teaching my son how to change the oil on our new truck, but when we got underneath it I was a bit put off by the panel covering everything. Sounds like it's easy to remove though based on your video.

All the videos I have watched to do this say the 3.5 takes 6 quarts of oil. According to the owner's manual, the capacity is 6.5 quarts with a filter change. I put 6.5 quarts in mine and after running for a few minutes, the oil is at the top of the mark.

Own a 2014 EB and i only use Full synthetic, either pennzoil or valvoline high mileage. Both great oils and have great success with either one. Imo, if you use the syn blend change it every 3,500 it'll work just fine. Turbos run really hot and over time could cause damage to the ecoboost engines.

Hey friend! I know the older gen F150s had rust issues and yours is getting a bit rusty around bolts. Underbody car washes are a great way to prevent rust! Just a tip.

Finally. Somebody that knows what kind of oil tp put in a 3.5 ecoboost engine. Synthetic BLEND and Not pure synthetic. And yes it also makes sense to use the oil specifically blended for the 3.5L Ford engines. Same goes for the FL-500S oil filter.
@UnArmedFilms4U
@UnArmedFilms4U Жыл бұрын
Full synthetic is listed as optional in the manual, typically as an upgrade to the standard recommended oil type.
@ginginthing
@ginginthing Жыл бұрын
@@UnArmedFilms4U i agree that full syn oil is better than syn blend as far as high heat film strength break down and wear etc, and I've been using full syn on all my vehicles except my Mack dump truck for over 40 years. But since Ford has had problems with their 3.5 for the past 10 years with cam chain slap and followers wearing out etc, they have apparently come up with several things that have fixed the problems. One of the lesser expensive thing they determined was that the syn blend oil was a little thicker and stuck to the cam chains and associated parts to help with this problem on cold start ups. I waited to buy a F150 until I thought they had a good fix and that was 2021. I then waited another year to see how they did and bought one used. So far everything is going well on this chain issue. I kept in touch with Ford from 2019 to see what was being done on this subject and they told me hold off another year. So then they switched to recommending the syn blend which the dealers also say to use. So pure syn might work now, and not have any problems, but I'm staying with the syn blend and changing oil and filter every 3500 miles because it's working. Over a long period and high mileage, my 22 and 23 year old vehicles that use pure syn oil show very little sign of lose of compression or oil burn. I'm guessing the syn blend oil over high mileage might show slightly more wear. Lots of YT videos on this F150 3.5l chain slap issue and reasons for syn blend oil.

@@ginginthing I have a 2017 with the cam phaser knock on cold start up, I think that's what you're referring to. The oil "fix" was BS and had nothing to do with it whatsoever, it's the pins that lock the cam phasers into place and not actually slipping into the slot and locking them. The real fix is the new redesigned cam phasers that came out less than a year ago. But I don't trust the dealership to do the job, and paying a trustworthy mechanic is like $4k
@ginginthing
@ginginthing Жыл бұрын
@@nastysoda9212 I know Ford made redesigned phasers and I'm not sure if that is the same thing I have in the 21 3.5 f150, but I have zero of the problems that 3.5's 20 and down have had. The 21 also has other mods such as cast SS exh manifolds to prevent the old warping problems there. Not sure what else but there's no slap and I'm using the syn blend as rec'd. If I had a older model f150 3.5l, before spending 4k, i'd put the new phasers in myself if u had the available down time. It's a big hour job and it would be better if u had some good mech experience. NOT FOR BEGINNERS. Plus when it's down that far, put the upgraded fuel pump in. I'd have that done even if u had Ford do the phasers. If Ford does it, u get a warranty. If u do it, u get to do it again free, or have Ford do it the second time.

@@Scoobyfreak86 That is a sweet ride! Congratulations on finding such a beautiful used F150. I'm with you on the regular oil changes. I've owned dozens of Ecoboosts for our personal and business use and we change the oil every 3000-5000 miles religiously. We use full synthetic not a blend but I do realize that the synthetic blend is what Ford recommends. If you're not happy with your Ford dealer, search for a better one. I had to go through 2 dealers before I found the third and they are great.

My 2013 5.0 as well as my 2022 Powerboost 3.5TT both seem to like fresh oil, period. Seat of the pants PBoost seems to start smoother with full synthetic but it's obvious the shorter change intervals is what really makes the difference. 5.0 did 5K interval Ford SynBlend ever single time and it liked it just fine. Water pump at 170K but that's expected. In the end what's $25 for 5 quarts every 3-4K on a $65K truck anyway? I've even just drained and filled and skipped the filter, just to have fresh oil more often.
