I had one like that. I put a fan at the window by the cab. It was needed on hot or rainy days.... they windows that you have are the same that I had (awful in the rain Windows that pop out are much better). I also put reflectix under a throw rug to make it more comfortable on the knees when crawling around (it was amazing for my old knees). The Truck bed camper got way more use than I ever thought it would get.

I'm right there with you with the idea of "less is more". I plan on using my tent as much as possible but have the option of staying in the back of my F-150 if the weather is terrible or I don't feel safe enough camping outside alone. I will watch these other videos with elaborate setups but just to find that small, little detail that I could use for my setup, like Quady's cot organizer, that was a genius idea! Awesome video 😁

Works well for me. Do need a higher watt hr generator and panels. Figuring 2 yrs living like this to get back where I was before SITF.

My truck is similar. Same grey interior😀 tho I added very high quality turf to the floor of my 8ft truck bed. It ensures that the Bedrug does not get worn out and the turf is so thick it holds on to stuff that get put back there. It also insulates it. Being an 8ft box I had room to build an storage shelf at the front of the box about 18 inches deep. The shelf rest on the top ledge of the bed rail. It’s mostly used to store tools for work but doubles as storage for camping. My wife and I have used the truck to go to summer music festivals and avoid the $350 min per night hotel cost. Plus it’s fun.

This really brings into perspective to build it as you intend to use it. I'm 100% guilty of this having watched way too many videos and way too many designs of how am I going to fit everything in it when in actuality I'm like you.... 1 or 2 nights doesn't need too much or to be fancy. Great job!

Just a suggestion coming from a die hard truck winter camper in Canada I have a Milwaukee M-12 fan with strong magnets and a 2*4 spring loaded grabber engineered into it The purpose for this fan is to circulate air to prevent humidity and mold in the small camper shell I even use this fan at minus 30 blowing on low near a partially open window along with my heater The fan easily runs all night on its own rechargeable battery

I've been thinking about building a truck bed camper system. I appreciate how you "dummy'd" down some of your build ideas, ie the carpet isn't carpet. Knowing what other builders have used or changed out with what works better for areas of the overall build is so very helpful and yall express that it's perfectly OK to copy yalls ideas that work. Thank you and you'll be seeing my own video once my build is done along with upgraded air suspension kit on my 2014 F150.

Love the simplicity of the build, for a good washroom idea try a hunters loo, its a 5 gallon bucket with a lid designed as a toilet seat, toilet paper fits on the carry handle, and they make custom heavy duty double sealed bags. (Best option for comfort, privacy and hygiene (numero dos only imo) considering you can rock a leak against a tree. When done, seal the bag, place it in a garbage bag with the rest of your trash, and keep it all stored in a trasharoo for the easiest convenience. Wish my Jeep was long enough to sleep in the back, but ive grown comfort with having separate sleeping accommodations, roof top tents seem great until you want to go for a quick rip for firewood or to a neat spot

Hi Brian, NICE (perfect) SET UP. You also did not share that the padding on the bottom of the bed rug fits the contours of the ribbed metal floor of the truck bed making the floor real smooth, flat and comfortable. I have a bed rug in my cab height Leer topper. I also have no need for plumbing. If I want I can put a luggable loo in the truck. We are old, so we do not freeze if we were stuck and broke down in the winter I keep 2 ECWSS military Extreme Cold Weather Sleep System's (a fancy name for a sleeping bag set up rated to minus 40 below zero with proper layering) they are comfortable. We do a lot of interstate traveling to see the kids and grandkids, but we usually have our Forest River travel trailer with us. We have a 2022 Silverado, crew cab, 6 1/2' bed, Z71, with the 3.0 Duramax. I haven't done the Reflectx yet. There is a trick to improve the "R" rating on the Reflectx. Spray glue the speaker box material to it, so the material goes between the glass and the Reflectx. Velcro install it above and below the window's that will give you a slight air gap and stop conduction from the glass through the Reflectx. Would you consider building another bed and dresser set up exactly the same as yours? I would get the same Goal Zero unit and the same Lithium back up battery.

Simple and clean build! My only "complaint" would be the goal zero, but everyone has their preference and needs, I just think you can get better for the money. Solar battery tech has come such a long way and goal zero is the dinosaur now. As long as it works for you though that's all that matters, happy camping!

Thanks. I kinda agree on the GZ being that most of these are lead acid. This particular one is Li-Ion and still not lifepo4 though. But, the inverter on it is extremely solid and puts out a solid 120 volts at full load. I also like the 30amp dc output. I have quite a few power stations and will prob swap out soon to an Ecoflow River Pro to test out, but this is cutting it for now👍🏻

Hey there looks like a nice clean job hope you can keep it that way. I remember truck camping back in the day (late 1970’s) in Colorado,Nebraska and Wyoming and driving on those dry and dusty back roads and even though my shell was fairly well sealed up it inevitably had a coating of dust on everything in the back of the truck. Not sure how to avoid this except to not drive on dirt roads. Cheers and good luck.

Loved the build. Sorry to be lazy and not read the other comments. Just an idea for blackout. You look to be a woodworker with the Festool. Make a template and add the width of that velcro strip. When I go camping, I just back in and that’s it. No setting up anything. The only thing I don’t like is when I go camping I feel like I’m wasting $50 a night because all I do is park my truck in a campsite. Other than that, I love camping out of the back of my truck.

The only thing I would do different, but I would understand why you might not do it as it would put some more weight on your truck. I would’ve used a different canopy. I would’ve went with a smart cap. I like the negative pressure vent which prevents dust from building up in the back of your camper when you drive down Dusty Roads. I also like that it is marketed as weatherproof and not just weather resistant.. I like the fact it has small little windows or you can open up the entire side panels and of course it’s made from stainless steel so it’s strong and you can put a roof rack on top and store some significant weight. The downside to this is it is more expensive and it is heavier. But really enjoy the video. I like watching what people do.

Minimal, clean build that works. With the right supplies, you could easily do a week if need be. Nice, build. 👍👍

Thanks for the tour. You shared a lot of great ideas. I just retired and thinking of doing something similar to do some traveling for an extended vacation. I presently have an old, 2014, Leer cab height top on my 2018 Silverado , 6 1/2' bed. I have been thinking of replacing it with a 180 like yours. After seeing your video I think it may be the best route to go. The cab height tops like I have just aren't tall enough for me to camp in. I thought about the extra tall caps they sell but they just look kind of crazy to me and not sure that extra height would actually make it much more functional than yours is anyway.

I use some paracord around my topper lock levers on the inside the width of the topper & it makes it super easy to pull the topper door shut, whether you are inside or standing on the ground.

I like it I have a suggestion get a bicycle inner tube or any type of inner tube and a bicycle pump a little one and if you ever need to you can put the inner tube between your cab and your camper shell and seal up the slider and you can start the truck and run your heat and blow it into the back and or air conditioning

Another good reason for bed on passenger side is visibility out passenger side of topper from driver seat. Tall items you might need to carry can now go behind driver. Mine is going on same side.

I liked your video SO much that I had to subscribe. I have watched so many of these videos to give me ideas for my Ranger, but they are all so crazy. Your awesome clever build is SO COOL !! I do not want a kitchen, shower, TV, toilet, etc. I just need a place to lie down on any future road trips so as to not waste money on hotels. Thank you for showing me your pickup. Cheers from Montreal, Qc.

Cool. Love the cabinet. I work with polyurethane (cushion foam) for a living. Trust me don’t cut that foam with a hot wire. It makes it sticky. We do it, but for certain applications. Turkey knifes is the way to go
