Nice and informative. Might need to adjust the tappets soon on mine. Should be easy peasy as far as I see.

At least the 1.6 isn't a direct injection configuration, the back sides of the intake valves looked clean.

That simplifies things for sure!

Too bad it was the head gasket after all. You know you'll be good there now, at least!

And it gave you a reason to tear down the top end, and give us a look around, at a high mile natural asp. 1.6, that's far from used up, and that's good content. Shows how tough these engines really are. Gaskets and belts are just consumables. 👍@@BigBensCarsAndCycles

Great video! Good to see that the engine is not damaged and hopefully will last a long time after the gasket and timing belt replacements. Btw I’m shocked at how thin the head gasket is! It’s literally like tin foil like you said in the video! I’m surprised there wasn’t more visible damage on it.

Super thin! That surprised me

I did this exact thing on focus 2.0. Am doing timing belt on 2017 focus 1.0 ecoboost and i always use this opportubity to ask you quetion BEN! When i did the focus i remember i needed to use a diamond washer (friction washer) before installing the crankshaft pulley. Does the ecoboost also need a washer. They can't seem to find the part number at ford parts.
@BigBensCarsAndCycles5 ай бұрын
Hi! The engine is not equipped with one from the factory. HOWEVER, one MUST be installed whenever the crank pulley is removed. The base part number is 6738
@zaza61515 ай бұрын
THank you! I also don't want to buy a torque multiplier to remove and instal the crank pulley do they rent those at autozone?@@BigBensCarsAndCycles

Is this the 1.6 TI-VCT and if not what are the differences is taking off the cams due to the vct? And with the timing is it a pain to do with the VCT
@BigBensCarsAndCycles2 ай бұрын
I think they're all ti vct. This is on a Fiesta. I can double check later if you want. Timing the cams was easy, just put the timing tool on the back in the slots then align the sprockets with the sprocket aligner tool

If you don't mind me asking a couple of questions first. Are you a certified mechanic and what state do you live on. I have a almost perfect 2017 Ford Feista 1.6 SE. This is my wife's car and she doesn't drive it that much, about 75k miles on it. A couple of month ago the car seemed to be applying the breaks by itself eventually bringing it to a stop. You could put it in drive or reverse and it wanted to move but felt like the emergency brake was on. I replaced the ABS modular and I only did this because a family member has a salvage yard and had one. I forgot all about needed to have it reprogrammed but never got that far. The reason for this is while I had things apart I replaced the timing belt, purchased the tool/kit with crank pin and thought I did everything correct because it ran ok for a month or so but then the wife called and said it wouldn't start and it was cranking slow. I took it to a local shop and he said I need a new engine and some of the rods are bent. He said Ford would probably be the only source but after a couple of days he said no luck. He said he doesn't do used engines. Anyway, I think I'm pretty good on vehicle and was thinking maybe i should pull the head and oil pan and see if I can see any damage. Would great appreciate you thoughts. Thanks

By chance did you make a head bolt installation video sequence and torq

One last question, i hope because i honestly hate to bug people. When i removed the aluminum bridge behind the two cam gears there was no sealant just an 0 ring. Do you have to install sealant when i put it back on
@BigBensCarsAndCycles2 ай бұрын
Yes, as far as I know. Do you have access to a manual? If not, you can join my discord and I'll post a pic from the ford manual

@BigBensCarsAndCycles I have everything back together 96%. My only issue is when I get the crank top dead center along with the X tool installed on the two cam gears the flat plate/tool for the back side of the cams goes in one but I really have to force it into the other one, just so nervous about starting it up and bending valves because the flat plate tool wouldn't easily slide in on the back side of the cams. Can it be of a hair on this plate sense the X slides in easy along with the crank is TDC
@hughbunyea47032 ай бұрын
Great videos. I hope somebody can help. I have a 2017 Fiesta 1.6 SE. I replaced the timing belt about 2 months ago, bought the tool with the crank pin and X plate. I double checked everything and it seemed to be ok until last week. The wife called and said it wouldn't start, seemed to crank slow. Anyway I took it to a shop and the told I need a motor, jumped timing and probably bent rods. This car is in imackulant shape so I have removed everything again including the valve cover. I installed the pin again and the cams are not lined up at the top, don't know what happened. The shop that had it didn't remove anything so I'm wandering how they came up with their diagnosis. I was wondering if everything is still good os there anyway I can reset the two cams. I would greatly appreciate any help
@BigBensCarsAndCycles2 ай бұрын
I would re-time it and see if its any good. Otherwise you can order a used engine on ebay for 600 bucks and I've got a video on how to install it

@@BigBensCarsAndCycles Thank you very much for responding. I took the belt off, moved each cam back to their marks, and spun the crank clockwise until it hit the pin. I guess I will put it all back together and pray it works. I'm 59 and not in the best of health so I was hoping you lived in Maryland because I would pay you to do it. Thanks again
