Ford Fiesta ABS Pump And Ford Transit ABS Fault Causing Sticking Brake Calipers

Common ABS pump malfunction will cause one or more brakes to bind/lock-up after depressing the brake pedal. It is commonly known for one wheel to fail and cause the brake to lock on, however, opposite wheels can fail at the same time for example near side front and offside rear, or near side rear and offside front.
Ford Fiesta ABS pump and Ford Transit ABS faults, caused by internal component failure, will prevent the brake calipers from releasing, making this a potentially highly dangerous fault.

There’s one more option. Free option. The module fails because it doesn’t get enough work. My 2016 Transit connect developed the sticking problem at ca 145 000 km. I just started using brakes more aggressively once in a while on gravel, grass or snow. Once a month or twice, and voila, 200 000 km on speedo and brakes are good as new. And don’t forget to change your brake fluid every 3 years or so.

Ive got a 2016 MK7 fiesta van. only done 30K from new. The brake pedal is very inconsistent, sometimes the brakes feel great, then sometimes the pedal nearly runs out of travel before the brakes bite. I have had the ABS module sent away for testing, and it checked out fine, however, if i remove the ABS fuse, the brake pedal is perfect. Only with the ABS pump live do i get this problem. Is it possible that this pump can test OK in the workshop, but in the real world still be faulty? Thanks.

I'm hoping you can help me out. 2017 Ford Feista SE non-turbo that we take care of, do not abuse in any way. About a month ago the brakes on the car seemed to apply themselves gradually and eventually bringing the car to a stop. It was so strange because now the brakw peddle would not go down at all, hard as a rock. You can put the car in drive or reverse and it wanted to move but it was like the brakes were locked. If we left the car for an hour or so we can then drive it with not issues for about 30 more minutes and then it would repear the process. I then took off both front calipers pushed the pistons all the way in and when i pushed the peddle they do not come out at all. So far everybody is telling transmission but that makes no sense. Again, I would greatly appreciate your thoughts. Also, is it possible to test the pump. Thanks

hi I was asked to look at a 2010 Ford fiesta. ABS lights I used Autocom said intermittent power to abs pump. could this be a module.

Hi. As the fault is an intermittent live feed issue we would suggest checking all the wiring and grounds to the ABS module as well as the vehicles battery's state of charge and state of health. Hope that helps.

So the ABS isn’t working at all in my 2012 Fiesta. The tires will skid. Can I replace just the module or do I have to replace the pump as well?

Hi. Any replacement would usually require the full unit (module and pump) to be replaced, which will require recoding to the vehicle using dealership level software. However, we can re-build the ABS unit while retaining its original coding so you can just re-fit it back to the vehicle, re-bleed the system and you're good to go! I have abs and stability control light on. Garage said it was abs pump. could this be true?

Hi. Both of those warning lights could indicate a problem with the ABS yes. However without further information, such as fault codes produced by a diagnostic scan, it would be difficult to rule anything else out. I have 2016 transit connect. Sounds like same issue. I have front passenger an rear driver sticking. Calipers changed an no difference. Fluid drained an flushed. No difference.

Hey Paul! Would you mind sharing an update? I have only one wheel locking up and smoking on my Ford Fiesta. I replaced pads, rotors, caliper, and hose, and now the mechanic is guessing that it could be the HCU or the whole ABS system. Did you have a similar experience?
