Ford Fiesta ST Mk5 ST150 REVIEW - how hot is this first generation Fiesta ST hot-hatch?

I've owned my 2006 performance blue ST for 10yrs now.Regularly serviced.It's nearly reached 51,000mls on the clock! The only thing I changed was the grey trim,professionally sprayed satin black.I've no intentions of selling it,I still like driving it after all these years.

why not upgrade to the newer generation? ive driven both and own a 2013 st now and its much more fun in my opinion. Also looks timeless and the heated recaros are amazing.

I’m 52 and brought my ST150 just over a year ago and I absolutely love it. Mine has had a full refresh of the suspension and replaced all the rubber bushes for power flex ones and it now sits a bit lower and on Michelin PS5’s and the ride and handling are spot on!! It’s such a great car to drive and always puts a smile on my face 😀😀

The Mk6 is a modern classic. I'd leave space in my garage for a pristine low-km one any day. The lack of a foot rest is a genuine down point though. That engine sounds so good. Thank you for your honest review!

Main things are rust on rear of sills,worn rear axle bushes and check condition of axle esp mounting points. leaking power steering pump, grubby power steering fluid due to its placement. Main thing is how it's been looked after. Timing chain so that's something that's a bonus. That are cheap and fun. Cheap to mod and easy to work on. Brilliant wee things.

I have one of these and absolutely love it! bought it a little rough body work but FSH only paid 1600 and spent 400 getting it looking as good as new and love every day with it, even find myself looking back at it every time I park it up! would recommend anyone who hasn't owned one give them ago, brilliant little cars. I've had my ST for 5 years now and it is a brilliant car. Such a dependable car for everyday with my heated leather seats on those cold mornings, but comes alive on those quiet B roads. Not the greatest on the motorway being 5 gears, but I have done it many times. Engine is really reliable with basic regular servicing. Would recommend to anyone who may be interested in ST's of this era - just get a looked after one.

These are going up. I paid 4k for mine October 2018, I saw a performance blue one on an 06 with 108 thou and usual dings and stone chips, faded head lights etc, £4695 on a pitch near me and it sold quick!

I bought one 2 years ago which I still own and enjoy frozen white 08 for £1500 in immaculate condition prices are going up due to the fiesta now discontinued these are great cars has long has u keep up with servicing and rule 101 always check the oil levels these love to drink oil

Love mine. Will keep it as long as I can. I have a Black 2005 unmodded, owned it for 8 years and it never fails to put a smile on my face. Most reliable car I have ever owned too. The firm suspension is an aquired taste and you get used to dodging pot holes... I often see more modern STs and wonder how they compare?

i currently own a 08 st, coming from a 65 plate st3 i can say that the 65 plate is/was better in every single imaginable way.

It wanted a sixth gear. The revs are far too high on a 60 or a motorway, I tend to keep it just below 70, late 60s. Steering heavy? I borrowed my mates VW Transporter and nearly turned it over, it was night n day! Change your power steering fluid regularly, keep it cherry red and be gentle with your front seat shoulder levers 👍

Same as the Clio182. Only 5 gears and with the gearing can be tiresome on the motorway but i great old school hot-hatch 👍🏻

Another enjoyable vid mate. Bought one at 18 with FSH 120k miles for 1850 quid and owned it for 2 years as my first sportyish car and loved it. Was almost completely faultless, but there were plenty I looked at beforehand which had been really poorly maintained! Great way to get into a hot hatch for cheap for a young petrolhead. Would recommend for anyone else who is in a similar position to the one I was in. Sold it for a NA MX-5 1.6 recently.

Hi mate, you mentioned the initial turn in wasn't too great. This could be due to a number of reasons but I suspect with the age of the car the suspension bushes are due for a refresh. I swapped my '06's to full poly bush kit and now it's just unbelievably responsive. I noticed the difference having had mild lowering springs fitted already.

You will notice the engine is a bit dull compared to the 172/182 but handling shouldn’t be an issue as it’s pretty planted even when stock and steering is full of feel and has a decent weight to it. Worth giving a go I reckon! I love mine

Good point about the future of fun driving for young people - it's going to look pretty bleak in 10 years time for affordable, reliable motoring with a bit of excitement. The situation is especially dire in Aus now we have lost our falcons and commodores (no more 2k ex taxi barras :( ). Cheap imported Japanese cars are a thing of the past as well. Looking at the current crop of daily drivers getting around I can see why young people are failing to give two shits about driving.

Maybe toyota are more luxuros or had better interior but fiesta have a soul and something "that" Make drive a fun

idk what you mean the steering feels dull its out of the box one of the best feeling and balance wise i ever drove in only topped by my dads lotus elise. i also got a gc8 sti even with a rebuild short ratio steering rack and alot more done to it and it doesnt give me such a good road feeling as my fiesta

I only say what I feel. I too have an STI (GD) and tbf steering feel isn’t great on that either (although it’s great in many other ways). The Lotus Elise is one of the benchmark cars wrt steering feel.

Great cuts and scenery! Nice! I own one in the same color but with full leather trim. Dream came true so easily on that one. Heated seats are like frying pan (thats good!) Brilliant car! On even on the motorway in 60-80mph it will put not one to shame :) But on corners... damn... And this engine LOVES high rpm. Sadly winters in Poland have cursed it with rust :( Steering had an issue from the design; the reservior is to close to an engine, while engine is tightly packet under the bonnet. It will overheat very easily so it needs frequent changes (5£ ATF fluid and 30min work. done)
